Hitachi Global Air Power Takes Home IMA Community Impact Award

Hitachi Global Air Power has received the Community Impact Award from the Indiana Manufacturers Association (IMA), officials from the compressed air solutions firm announced Oct. 5.
The award recognizes the Michigan City, Indiana-based company’s “commitment to environmental stewardship and community investment,” representatives say. The award itself honors Indianan manufacturers showcasing leadership and dedication to creating meaningful change in their community.
Further, the award aims to acknowledges organizations like Hitachi that exemplify service, generosity, and civic engagement in their communities.
“It’s truly an honor to be recognized for our efforts that support local beautification, sustainability, and the communities of Michigan City and the surrounding region,” says Hideki Fujimoto, president and CEO of Hitachi Global Air Power. “Strong communities are built through partnership and service, and we believe businesses have an important role to play.
“We’re proud to call Michigan City home for more than six decades and grateful to be part of its story – and its future.”
Hitachi’s community initiatives
In its acknowledgement of Hitachi, the IMA highlighted several service projects Hitachi completed in service to the Michigan City community.
The company’s Michigan City headquarters has undergone a transformation, the firm says, as Hitachi officials aim to convert nearly seven acres of traditional grass into a native prairie ecosystem. This project is part of a five-year restoration effort of the area’s native habitat.
“The project reduces emissions and water usage by eliminating routine mowing and irrigation, while creating habitat for pollinators, supporting wildlife, and improving soil health,” Hitachi says. “This effort is supported by the LaPorte County Soil and Water Conservation District through a Clean Water Indiana grant.”
Additionally, the company has launched a separate five-year effort to restore the woodland ecosystem of Pottawattamie Park, Indiana’s Friendship Botanical Gardens. Supported in part through a Clean Water Indiana grant, the project aims to enhance local biodiversity, improve ecological health, and “create a new public experience.”
Finally, the company donated a large-scale mural to commemorate its 60th anniversary at its Michigan City headquarters. Spanning eight retaining walls, the mural aims to showcase the area’s industrial heritage, community spirit, and the partnership between that community and Hitachi.
