Manufacturers Discuss Their Most Popular Scissor Lifts
When a job finds a crew working overhead — whether it’s indoors or out — scissor lifts are a popular equipment option thanks to their capacity and stability. These versatile and efficient machines provide a safe platform for materials, tools and workers. They’re a great alternative to ladders and scaffolding, and can assist in about any application where extra reach is needed. General contractors, electricians, painters, drywallers and many other construction professionals can all benefit from a scissor lift. Below, four manufacturers highlight popular units in their lineups.
JCB S1932E Electric Scissor Lift
The JCB S1932E electric scissor lift is a compact, versatile solution built to meet modern jobsite demands with enhanced transportability, safety and efficiency. Weighing 3,505 lbs, 250 lbs lighter than previous models, it is easier to tow, load and maneuver. Its maximum working height of 24 ft, 9 in. and platform capacity of 505 lbs comfortably accommodate two occupants, making it ideal for maintenance, installation and inspection tasks both indoors and outdoors.
Innovative features include quick-folding rails for seamless navigation through low doorways and confined areas, boosting productivity. A built-in leak containment system prevents fluid spills, keeping surfaces clean and safe while avoiding site damage. The optional 220-lb capacity pipe rack enhances material handling, compatible across the JCB Access range.
With its lightweight yet robust build, the S1932E also emphasizes sustainability through its lead-acid battery power, ensuring clean and quiet operation. Engineered for ease of use and serviceability, it’s a valuable addition to rental fleets or workforces prioritizing performance and reliability.
JLG ES4046 Electric Scissor Lift
JLG‘s ES4046 electric scissor lift provides performance capabilities, implements application-driven design and offers support for its operators. The company incorporated customer feedback to develop various areas of the product, such as fold-down rails and maneuverability. This model offers over 40 percent more duty cycles than the previous R4045 electric scissor lift, as well as uses fewer hoses and fittings and a single lift cylinder. The ES4046 is the highest ES Series scissor lift, measuring at 39-ft platform height indoors (up to 28.5-ft outdoors), while simultaneously being the lowest gross-weight scissor in its class.
Application-driven design includes a zero turning radius which provides access to narrow aisles and tight overhead spaces. In 2024, JLG will introduce a lithium-ion battery option to offer fast charging. Operators also can add optional features such as CleanGuard leak containment system for working on sensitive flooring, a 900-watt inverter to charge tools and SkySense detection system that helps protect workers and property.
ClearSky Smart Fleet comes standard on the ES4046 electric scissor lift to allow for fleet tracking. JLG offers responsive onsite service and technical support from experts and continues to provide training options for operators, supervisors and service technicians.
3 Ways To Maximize the Versatility of Your Electric Scissor Lift
By Lee Tice, Product Manager, JCB
Electric scissor lifts are essential on modern jobsites, but choosing the right features can significantly enhance their versatility and efficiency. Here are three key considerations to keep in mind when selecting or operating your lift.
1. Focus on Usability
Efficient equipment should be easy to operate. Look for features like handles designed for use with gloves and intuitive controls for both left- and right-handed operators. A well-placed door handle ensures safer, easier entry, while a built-in power outlet on the platform streamlines tool use. Ergonomic designs not only improve operator comfort but also help maintain productivity during long workdays.
2. Select a Dependable Battery System
A reliable battery system is a cornerstone of uninterrupted productivity. Lifts offering maintenance-free batteries eliminate the hassle of frequent upkeep, while lead-acid packs deliver durable, long-lasting power. An easy-to-read charge level indicator allows for quick checks, helping you plan efficiently and minimize downtime.
3. Prioritize Safety at Height
Safety is paramount when working at height. Features like a pothole protection system ensure the platform won’t rise until it’s fully stabilized, providing a secure foundation. Emergency descent and brake release handles positioned at the rear of the lift offer easy access, even in confined spaces. Always ensure your lift meets the latest safety standards to protect operators and equipment on-site.
By prioritizing usability, reliable battery systems and robust safety features, you can ensure your electric scissor lift delivers peak performance and adaptability on every job. These considerations help you get the most from your equipment while maintaining a safe and efficient worksite.
Genie GS-1932 Slab Scissor Lift
The Genie GS-1932 slab scissor lift is one of six new models in Genie’s Next-Generation Scissor Lift product family, which has been designed to improve quality and total cost of ownership.
The new curved link stack reduces machine weight, allowing the use of right-sized components, which helps lower maintenance costs. An updated chassis design mitigates rust-causing stagnant water; the extension deck is reinforced to reduce damage; and additional steel protects the forklift pockets — a common damage area when loading and unloading.
In North America, Genie Lift Tools Spill Guard and FLA batteries are standard; Lithium-Ion is an option.
Fixed guard rails allow the GS-1932 to drive through most common doors without folding the guardrails. The GS-1932 has a maximum platform height of 18 ft 6 in and a 500 lb capacity.
Genie Next-Generation Scissor Lifts will be available in North America in 2025.
