Video: Terramac’s RT6 and RT7R Crawler Dumpers Pack Big Productivity Gains in Packages Designed to Go Anywhere
On this episode of Machine Heads, host Wayne Grayson sits down with Gage Taylor of Terramac to discuss the company’s smallest crawler carriers: the RT6 and RT7R. The RT6 is the straight frame model while the RT7R adds a bit more payload and full, 360-degree upper structure rotation. But these two machines are also alike in more ways than you might think. Learn where these machines shine and whether one makes sense for your jobsite here.
Terramac has been a leader in the crawler carrier category for years, and they offer two models that fit the compact classification.
RT6
The RT6 is Terramac’s smallest machine. It weighs around 17,880 lbs with a dump bed and can carry 12,000 lbs. It’s powered by a 155-hp Cummins B4.5 engine and has a ground pressure of just 5.3 PSI when fully loaded. The footprint is 16 ft, 2 in. long by 8 ft, 2 in. wide, and it can travel up to 6.5 mph.
What makes the RT6 interesting is its customization options. The chassis can be configured with a variety of beds: flat bed, dump bed, or rock dump bed. But you can also mount specialty equipment like digger derricks, personnel carriers, drills or cranes. This versatility makes it popular in utility and powerline work.
RT7R

The RT7R is Terramac’s rotating model in the compact range. It features full 360-degree rotation of the upper structure, which means you can offload in any direction while the operator always faces forward in the cab. This reduces operator fatigue and allows for very precise dumping. The RT7R can carry up to 14,000 lbs (7 tons) and has similar ground pressure characteristics to the RT6.
Both Terramac models are available with open or enclosed cabs, and they come standard with ROPS and FOPS protection. The machines are built in the U.S. and supported through Terramac’s dealer network.
