Video: Takeuchi’s TCR50-2 Crawler Carrier Might Just Be the Goldilocks of Compact Dumpers

On this episode of Machine Heads, host Wayne Grayson sits down with Dylan Freeman of Takeuchi to discuss the TCR50-2. This is a compact crawler carrier that packs a lot of payload, capability and a smart feature set into a rotating crawler carrier designed to get into small spaces while moving lots of material.

Takeuchi’s entry into the crawler carrier market is the TCR50-2, and this machine is specifically designed to hit a price point and size that makes it accessible to a broader range of contractors.

The TCR50-2 has an operating weight of 14,440 lbs and is powered by a 118-hp Yanmar diesel engine. It can carry up to 8,157 lbs – that’s roughly 2.7 cu yds of material. The dump bed rotates 180 degrees (90 degrees left and right) and dumps at a 65-degree angle. You can raise the bed to full dump height and still rotate it, which gives you tremendous flexibility in tight spaces.

One unique feature is the self-tensioning undercarriage. Unlike most tracked equipment where you need to manually adjust track tension with a grease gun, the TCR50-2 automatically tensions the tracks whenever you cycle from low to high operation. It also rides on a bogie-style undercarriage with double-flange track rollers, which provides excellent ride quality and reduces the likelihood of throwing a track.

The operator station is fully enclosed with heat and AC, a 5.7-in. color display, hydraulic joystick controls and a standard rearview camera. It’s set up to be comfortable for all-day operation.
