Hatz Expands Power Generation Lineup with New Mobile Diesel Generators for RV and Industrial Markets

Need more convenient and efficient power in 2025? Here’s a solution. Motorenfabrik Hatz and Hatz Americas Inc. recently introduced AC and DC mobile diesel generators. These are specifically targeting the recreational vehicle (RV) and industrial markets. This expansion underscores Hatz’s growing commitment to versatile and efficient power solutions, a journey that has evolved over decades.

The newly launched GD3200-120 Silent Pack and BD3000-56 Silent Pack generators represent the latest in Hatz’s efforts to provide compact, mobile power solutions. These can handle everything from hybrid battery charging to supplying clean energy in rugged environments. These generators are sound-attenuated, user-friendly and designed for flexibility — a perfect fit for small spaces and remote jobsites.

New Products: Hatz AC and DC Mobile Diesel Generators

Hatz’s move into the mobile generator market follows the company’s acquisition of the rights to RV generator designs previously produced by Dometic Italy SpA. For over two decades, Hatz supplied engines for Dometic’s generators, delivering more than 30,000 engines during that time. From the press release:

“We are very pleased to be able to bring these models completely in house for production,” said Mike Hartoonian, President and CEO of Hatz Americas Inc. “The AC version ensures the uninterrupted supply of a 50-state legal model for the RV market and adjacent spaces, while the new DC versions will continue to position Hatz as the leader in diesel/electric hybrid applications.”

The new GD3200-120 Silent Pack generator is available immediately and will be followed by the BD3000-56 Silent Pack, designed for hybrid battery charging systems. The quiet properties of these silent packs are a result of a very deliberate routing of the intake airflow with sound baffling, strategic placement of sound absorbing materials inside and mitigation of the exhaust noise. For example, vibration isolation is achieved by suspending the GD 3200 from a cradle that is allowed to move independently rather than trying to rigidly mount the base of the unit to the equipment.

These generators are powered by Hatz’s 1B30VE engines, which are manufactured and tested at the company’s primary plant in Ruhstorf, Germany. Final assembly takes place at Hatz’s new production facility in Italy. With their compact design and sound-reduction features, the new generators are an ideal solution for applications ranging from RVs to industrial jobsites.

Why Mobile Diesel Generators Make Sense for Compact Equipment

Mobile diesel generators, like those offered by Hatz, provide practical power solutions for compact equipment operators. Traditional power sources often fall short when working in remote locations or tight spaces. Mobile generators solve this issue by delivering reliable, on-the-go power for everything from charging hybrid batteries to running essential equipment on a jobsite. These generators are particularly valuable in the compact equipment sector, where machines need to operate efficiently in confined areas. Mobile diesel generators can keep jobsites powered without the need for large, stationary setups. This offers a level of flexibility that fits well with compact machines.

Hatz’s GD3200 Silent Pack, for instance, offers quiet operation and a compact footprint, making it a natural choice for applications like light towers, utility trucks and RVs. The ability to provide consistent power without excessive noise is essential for urban jobsites or events where noise restrictions may apply.

Hatz’s Flywheel-Integrated Generator Technology

Hatz’s fiPMG allows a standard fuel engine to charge battery packs or capacitors, rather than powering the equipment directly.

One of the most exciting aspects of Hatz’s power generation offerings is its innovative flywheel-integrated permanent magnet generator (fiPMG) technology. This technology allows a standard diesel engine to generate clean, efficient power by charging batteries or capacitors rather than powering equipment directly.

The fiPMG technology offers several benefits:

  • Increased Efficiency: By using a wider range of engine speeds, the generator maximizes fuel efficiency and reduces emissions.
  • Compact Design: The integration of the generator into the engine’s flywheel minimizes the overall size of the system.
  • Versatile Power Options: These generators can function as hybrid power solutions or range extenders for electric machinery.

Hatz’s GD3200 Silent Pack leverages this fiPMG technology. This makes it a leading option for hybrid power systems in both the RV and industrial markets.

Recapping Our Summer Interview with Hatz

In July 2024, Compact Equipment sat down with Hatz’s product manager for power generation, Ben Froland. We discussed the company’s growing interest in hybrid power solutions. The conversation focused on Hatz’s innovative approach to power generation. We particularly discussed its use of fiPMG technology to offer efficient hybrid options for compact equipment. Hatz’s emphasis on hybridization reflects broader industry trends toward reducing emissions and increasing fuel efficiency. The company’s fiPMG solutions have found use in a range of applications. This includes everything from light towers to weather buoys, offering silent, zero-emission operation when running off battery power. From that interview:

“As a prepacked unit, the GD 3200 Silent Pack offers a very compact footprint and extremely low noise levels without requiring the OEM to go through development of their own enclosure and subsequent application review,” says Froland. “All you would have to do is hook up fuel lines, a starting battery and make your electrical connections. You can directly drive AC applications such as the RV or the ground heater. For hybrid applications you’re ready to safely charge lithium batteries in either 24V or 48V configurations.”
