Up to the Task: Five Attachments for Compact Tractors in Property Management

Owning acreage is a big commitment. There’s lots of land to maintain — grass to cut, spaces to keep clear, soil beds to get ready. When paired with the right tools, compact utility tractors (CUTs) help large property owners conquer these chores in less time and with less manual labor. We asked Mike Brull, senior product marketing manager at Land Pride, to pick the top attachments for these tasks.
Rotary Tiller
Soil prep is typically a top concern for homesteaders or large property owners who dabble in gardening. Therefore, a rotary tiller is a popular choice of attachment for a CUT. Brull explains a rotary tiller can work in a variety of ground conditions and turns up hard-packed ground — leaving a perfect seedbed for gardens or grass. When shopping, he says it’s important to consider your ground conditions. For example, reverse-till models are well equipped for small farming operations but struggle in rocky soil. If your soil is plagued with more rocks, he suggests selecting a forward-till rotary tiller.
Grading Scraper
Dirt and gravel roads can always use a refresh. To help, property owners can rely on grading scrapers to help smooth and level these surfaces with minimal passes. These attachments aid in filling in ruts and shaping your driveway and other pathways. Brull notes that a grading scraper offers a low-cost alternative for road grading applications, and it doesn’t require the additional horsepower or tending of tractor 3-point lift controls that a box scraper normally does.

“Simply setting a properly adjusted GS15 Series Grading Scraper on the ground and driving forward enables the operator to grade off high spots and fill in ruts and low spots on unimproved roads and lanes with little or no manipulation of the tractor’s 3-point hitch controls,” he says. “Unlike a rear blade, they require no adjustment of blade angling or offset positions.”
Rotary Cutter
Managing tall grass and light brush on a large property is always on the to-do list. A rotary cutter is a solid, cost-effective choice for that. Brull says there are many sizes of rotary cutters to choose from — ranging from 42 up to 84 in. Size selection depends on the size of the material an owner needs cut, as well as the amount of pasture/area that needs to be maintained.
Grapple
Large, open spaces are magnets for fallen limbs and scattered debris. Fortunately, property owners can pair their CUTs with a grapple for cleanup duty. Brull says a grapple can be used to rake, dig and move materials (like rocks, trees, brush and construction debris) without picking up dirt. He adds, “The compact design of a grapple minimizes weight while preserving lift capacity. Select a claw grapple for limbs and downed brush. Root grapples are ideal for digging up roots and in demolition applications — which can be controlled by a Land Pride 3rd Function Valve Kit.”
Combo Bucket
Need a bucket that can do it all? A combo bucket is the answer. Also referred to as a four-in-one bucket, these attachments can be used as a dozer, scraper, grapple or bucket. Brull says a combo bucket allows you to dig, drag, doze and clamp all with a single tool. It’s ideal for scooping debris and carrying material around a large property. It’s one of the best ways to increase the versatility of your compact utility tractor.
