Innovative Iron Awards: JCB’s 1T-E Battery-Powered Site Dumper
The Top Construction, Landscape and Rental Equipment Launched in 2022
Throughout 2022, the Compact Equipment crew traveled the countryside (tradeshows, product launches, zoom interviews, operation opportunities) to analyze and catalog every model of compact machinery released into the wild. Looking back, the last 12 months saw the introduction of an impressive array of off-highway construction equipment and OEM systems, but a certain set of equipment stood above the rest. We call them the Innovative Iron Award winners, and these particular units are, in our humble opinion, the best compact equipment released in 2022. Here comes a winner right now. See them all right here.
Zero Emissions, Low Noise, Great e-Dumper
JCB continues to be the leader in electrifying compact equipment. The 1T-E site dumper is its latest. It’s a durable dumper with a full steel skip and heavy-duty articulated chassis, but it’s powered by two robust 48V 5kWh lithium-ion batteries. It has three charging options: 110V, 230V and 415V. The machine replaces the individual wheel motors of the hydrostatic 1T-2 with conventional drive axles and a drop box, to provide full-time all-wheel drive. The 1TE delivers zero emissions at the point of use and low noise levels, making it ideal for indoor, underground and emissions-sensitive working sites. The machine offers a max payload of 2,205 lbs and a max load height of 7 ft, 10 in.
JCB has launched the new electric site dumper with the unveiling of the one ton high-tip model powered by lithium-ion battery technology. Designed to work indoors, underground and in emissions-sensitive areas, the 1TE electric dumper is an ideal partner for JCB’s market-leading 19C-1E electric mini excavator.
The 1T-E site dumper is a durable, compact machine with a full steel skip and heavy-duty articulated chassis. The machine replaces the individual wheel motors of the hydrostatic 1T-2 with conventional drive axles and a drop box, to provide full-time all-wheel drive. A 7-kW hydraulic motor delivers drive to the drop box, while a second hydraulic pump is used to power the machine’s standard hydraulic circuit, for steering and skip lift.
The power is supplied by two 5kWh lithium-ion batteries, capable of providing full shift operation in normal use. The batteries can be recharged from conventional site electrical supplies, with 110V and 230V cables available. In addition, the optional JCB Universal Charger can be used to rapid charge the batteries for extended operation.
Designed primarily for European and North American markets, the 1TE delivers zero emissions at the point of use and low noise levels, making it ideal for indoor, underground and emissions-sensitive working sites. A ROPS frame is standard, along with LED orange and green lap-belt beacons. The dumper also comes with powerful LED working lights, providing maximum visibility in low light conditions.
