Volvo Unveils Straight Boom Option for Its EC18 Electric Mini Excavator

Volvo Construction Equipment just announced it is enhancing its 1.8-ton EC18 Electric mini excavator with a new straight boom option, and we love options. This update delivers a 10 percent higher pin height than the standard configuration, allowing contractors to reach high jobsite areas more easily while fitting through doorways. The straight boom design boosts the working height to 13 ft with the bucket attached. Contractors can also choose a factory-fitted demolition guarding package that adds operator and machine protection. Production starts in mid-2025. From the press release:

“Electric compact excavators’ lack of emissions and reduced noise have made them popular options for indoor demolition,” said Tony den Hoed, director of demolition strategic accounts at Volvo. “Contractors told us that a straight boom on the EC18 Electric would give them the extra height needed to reach ceilings while still easily fitting through doorways. Nimble machines are critical for indoor demolition, and we welcomed the opportunity to provide a solution that will help our customers win more jobs.”

Volvo also features two compact wheel loaders (L20 and L25) and an asphalt compactor (DD25). The company continues to expand its range with larger machines and prototypes, including a 23-metric-ton EC230 Electric excavator, a hybrid electric wheel loader, an electric mid-sized wheeled excavator and a hydrogen fuel cell articulated hauler.
