All the Reasons You Should Attend Volvo Construction Equipment’s Holiday Lights Display

I was just in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania. It’s a great American small town, backdropped by beautiful hills and Appalachian ridges. While I was in the “burg” to experience Volvo Media Days 2024, the company put on an amazing drone display, lighting up the fall night sky with cool-as-heck flying imagery. Just look at the photos! It was fantastic, so I’m going to go out on a limb here and say Volvo Construction Equipment knows cool light displays. As proof, this theorem also includes holiday light displays, which Volvo CE has been doing for some years now.

In fact, Volvo Construction Equipment is currently preparing for its fifth annual Holiday Lights event this week. This is a fun and festive way for the Shippensburg’s community members to enjoy construction machines via the holidays. Plus, this event supports non-profit organizations, it’s free and it’s open to the public. It’s all going down this Friday, December 6, through Monday, December 9, from 6 to 8 p.m. each night. From the press release:

“This event is an amazing opportunity to bring our community and employees together to celebrate the holiday season,” said Keegan Fonder, People & Culture Business Consultant at Volvo CE. “When you think of Shippensburg, you think of community, and being able to give back to our community with the help of our employees is extremely special.”

Why Holiday Lights Are Fun and Cool

Massive machines adorned with sparkling lights and inflatable holiday characters create a magical contrast. Kids and adults alike are drawn to the spectacle of these powerful machines transformed into festive displays, showcasing creativity and community spirit. My seven-year-old son would absolutely love this and so would my 70-year-old uncle, who operates tons of compact equipment. I also want to attend!

Vote for Your Favorite Display

Each display is crafted by Volvo employee teams, who pair their creativity with a commitment to supporting nonprofits. Visitors and online participants can vote for their favorite light display from December 6 to December 9 on the Volvo Construction Equipment North America Facebook page by liking their favorite photo.

The nonprofit tied to the most popular display will receive the largest donation, while all organizations benefit from the community’s generosity. This year’s featured nonprofits include:

  • Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministry
  • Community CARES Family Shelter
  • Drew Michael Taylor Foundation
  • Keystone Human Services
  • Punk Rock Saves Lives
  • She’s Somebody’s Daughter
  • Shriners Children’s Hospital
  • Speranza Animal Rescue

Giving Back to Hurricane Helene Victims

In addition to supporting these organizations, a portion of the donations will aid communities in Asheville, North Carolina, impacted by Hurricane Helene. Volvo’s connection to Asheville runs deep, as the company’s former base and many employees remain tied to the area. I remember traveling to Asheville many times to visit Volvo CE back in the day, and I’m still a big fan of that town today. Great idea.

Festive Fun for Everyone

Visitors can expect:

  • Dazzling light displays on construction equipment
  • Holiday music from the Shippensburg Area High School band
  • Appearances by Santa and Mrs. Claus
  • Lots’o’fun

Last year, over 4,000 vehicles participated, creating a beloved regional tradition that grows each year.
