Stay in the Know with These MEWP Telematics Platforms

When using a mobile elevated work platform (MEWP), it’s important to keep track of its performance, maintenance needs and more. Luckily, there are telematics systems to help with that. Below, three manufacturers share their fleet management platforms.
Genie Lift Connect
Genie Lift Connect telematics (see photo above) gives fleet owners real-time visibility into machine location, engine hours, utilization and fault codes to help reduce downtime and improve fleet management. Introduced in 2019, the system streams “heartbeat data” from operating machines, enabling deep analytics, trend identification and future predictive maintenance capabilities. A major recent enhancement is the TU700 telematics hardware unit, which adds Wi-Fi connectivity alongside cellular communication. The TU700 improves data transmission in areas with weak cellular coverage and allows fleet owners to better track assets and capture machine data indoors. Lift Connect also supports remote troubleshooting by allowing technicians to view fault codes remotely, helping speed repairs and reduce service visits. Optional Access Manager security restricts machine operation to authorized users only. Genie recently upgraded the platform to Trackunit Manager, making it easier for fleet owners to integrate telematics data with other business systems and gain a more complete view of fleet performance and utilization.
JLG ClearSky Smart Fleet

JLG has expanded its ClearSky Smart Fleet IoT platform with several new features designed to improve fleet visibility, connectivity and jobsite efficiency. New Automatic Site Networks use Bluetooth mesh technology to automatically connect machines on-site, enabling real-time tracking even in remote or underground locations without GPS. The Digital Analyzer Reader brings machine diagnostics to mobile devices, allowing technicians to access data, share reports and troubleshoot equipment without handheld analyzers. Digital Access Control enables fleet managers to remotely restrict or permit machine operation through the mobile app, streamlining security and access management. Elevation-Based Localization helps crews locate equipment on multi-story projects using barometric sensors to identify vertical positioning. Additionally, Over-the-Air Machine Software Updates allow multiple machines to be updated simultaneously in under 30 minutes, reducing downtime and improving productivity. Together, these innovations strengthen JLG’s transition from connected machines to fully connected jobsites.
Skyjack ELEVATE

Skyjack’s ELEVATE telematics system delivers actionable insights and measurable benefits for rental companies by enhancing existing business models. It connects rental fleets with service teams, end users and ERP rental software to streamline operations. ELEVATE provides critical alerts and real-time data, including battery health, CAN data and true utilization based on lifting, driving, load and run time. These insights help reduce downtime, cut labor costs, and extend equipment life. Skyjack’s ELEVATE Live gives machine operators direct access to key information through a QR code on the equipment. Available on all Skyjack machines, operators can view the machine’s health status (with the broader ELEVATE telematics installed), pre-use inspection checklists, quick start guides, familiarization videos, emergency procedures and serial-specific machine data. By putting essential resources in the hands of users, ELEVATE Live promotes efficient equipment use and reduces support demands on rental companies.
