JCB Wins $205 Million U.S. Marine Corps Wheel Loader Contract

JCB has secured a major U.S. military contract to supply 535 militarized wheel loaders to the United States Marine Corps. Valued at $205 million, the award falls under the Marine Corps’ Tractor, Rubber Tired, Articulated-Steering Multi-Purpose vehicle program. This deal marks JCB’s third consecutive competitive Marine Corps award, reinforcing the company’s growing role as a supplier of earthmoving and material handling equipment for U.S. military operations. From the press release:
“This repeat business from the U.S. Marine Corps underscores the reliability and mission-readiness of JCB machines,” said Richard Fox-Marrs, CEO of JCB North America. “Being selected for three consecutive contracts speaks volumes about the trust placed in our engineering, performance and support.”
Contract Details at a Glance
The Marine Corps selected JCB’s 437HT wheel loader following a competitive evaluation process. TRAM stands for Tractor, Rubber Tired, Articulated-Steering Multi-Purpose, and the program supports a wide range of engineering and material handling tasks. The contract covers 535 militarized 437HT wheel loaders, with test and evaluation units scheduled for delivery in 2026 and full-rate production expected to begin in 2027. This award follows two earlier Marine Corps contracts, including a $45 million deal for 4CX backhoe loaders and a $39 million contract for a militarized version of JCB’s Teleskid compact track loader.
Why The 437HT Was Selected
The 437HT is built from JCB’s commercial 437 wheel loader platform rather than a clean-sheet military design. That distinction matters. The base machine already operates in demanding civilian applications, which gives the Marine Corps a proven foundation to adapt for military requirements. The 437 platform brings strong lift performance, efficient cycle times, integrated ROPS and FOPS protection and service access designed to minimize downtime. Using an established commercial platform also simplifies logistics and parts availability while reducing lifecycle complexity. From the press release:
“Winning this competitive contract is testament to the reliability
,robustness and suitability of the JCB 437HT platform,” said Chris Giorgianni, vice president of Government & Defense at JCB North America. “This machine represents the best of JCB engineering – proven in commercial applications and purpose-built to support the unique demands of military operations.”
Timeline for Delivery
JCB will deliver a number of test machines to the Marine Corps later this year, allowing the service to validate performance before committing to full production. Once testing is complete, production is expected to ramp up in 2027. This phased approach mirrors previous Marine Corps equipment programs and allows operational feedback to shape final configurations before broader deployment.
JCB’s Military Machine Lineup

JCB has supplied equipment to the U.S. military for more than three decades, blending purpose-built defense machines with militarized versions of commercial products. Its defense lineup includes the High Mobility Engineer Excavator, the Light Capability Rough Terrain Forklift, the 4CX military backhoe loader and Teleskid-based compact track loaders. The 437HT wheel loader now joins that portfolio, expanding JCB’s role in heavy material handling for military engineering units.
The Big Picture
The $205 million 437HT contract strengthens JCB’s position as a trusted supplier of military engineering equipment and highlights how defense procurement continues to evolve. The Marine Corps is prioritizing machines that already perform in harsh civilian environments and can be adapted quickly for military use. With three consecutive competitive wins, JCB has clearly aligned its commercial equipment strategy with modern military requirements.
