JCB North America has stepped into new territory. The company just released two compact track loaders that break the 100-hp barrier — the 109-hp 4TS Teleskid and 400T compact track loader. These new machines extend JCB’s compact loader lineup into a higher power class, answering growing demand for large-frame CTLs capable of tackling forestry, grading and heavy material handling. From the press release:

“These machines reflect our commitment to equipping operators with the tools they need to work smarter, not harder,” said Lee Tice, Prodcuct Manager, JCB. “The 4TS and 400T were developed with extensive customer feedback, incorporating updates that deliver more power, greater reach and improved productivity. Whether you’re managing construction projects, tackling forestry challenges or handling versatile applications, these machines are built to exceed expectations.”

Where They Fit in JCB’s Lineup

Until now, JCB’s six-model CTL line topped out with the 74-hp 3TS-8T Teleskid. The new 4TS and 400T become the company’s largest loaders to date, both designed and built in Savannah, Georgia.

  • 4TS Teleskid: Offers a 15-ft lift height, nearly 4,000-lb rated operating capacity and a telescopic boom capable of running high-flow attachments even at full extension. At 13,000 lbs operating weight, it’s built for versatility — stacking, loading and grading — while retaining the ability to work in tight areas. From the press release: “The 4TS Teleskid bridges the gap between compact and capability,” said Tice. “It’s the ultimate all-in-one machine for contractors who need to get more done with less equipment.”
  • 400T CTL: Built for heavy-duty tasks like mulching and land clearing. Weighing 12,544 lbs, it delivers more than 40 gpm at 4,000 psi to power high-demand attachments. A redesigned chassis and cooling system eliminate the need for auxiliary coolers, helping it withstand long, high-flow jobs. From the press release: “When you need equipment that works as hard as you do, the 400T is the answer,” said Tice. “With its increased engine and hydraulic performance, it’s a true workhorse built for operators tackling the most challenging applications.”

Both machines feature JCB’s trademark single-arm boom and side-door entry, designed for durability and safer access. See photo above!

Industry Shift Toward Larger Loaders

JCB’s move into this class reflects a broader industry trend. Contractors want compact loaders with more horsepower, lift height and hydraulic capacity. Over the past few years, OEMs have delivered:

  • Caterpillar’s 285 and 285 XE — 12.5-ft lift height, 134 hp and dozer-style E-bar undercarriage
  • ASV’s RT-135 — 132 hp and an industry-leading 50 gpm high-flow system
  • Case’s TV620B — 114 hp with a 6,200-lb rated operating capacity
  • The all-new Takeuchi TL11R3 — Electric-over-hydraulic controls respond with uncanny precision while 107.3 hp puts serious force behind every pass. Operating weight is 11,650 lbs (canopy model) or 11,980 lbs (cab model).
  • Bobcat’s T86, Deere’s 335 P-Tier, Takeuchi’s TL12V2, Yanmar’s TL100VS and Develon’s DTL35 — all large-frame CTLs aimed at high-demand applications

These “super CTLs” are redefining the category, offering capabilities that rival small dozers and wheel loaders. JCB’s 4TS and 400T now join that elite group.

Manitou News Coming Soon

This large-frame trend isn’t slowing down. I just attended a Manitou product launch today where the company unveiled five new big-frame skid steers and CTLs, including one aimed squarely at the same high-horsepower segment as JCB’s 4TS and 400T. Stay tuned to Compact Equipment for a full breakdown of those machines.
