Machine Heads Video: Develon’s DTL35 Track Loader and DX17Z-7 Mini Excavator

In 2023, the well-known construction equipment brand Doosan Infracore underwent a significant transformation. After nearly 80 years of industry prominence, Doosan’s heavy equipment division rebranded itself as Develon following its acquisition by Hyundai. This major shift included new machines, logos and an expanded portfolio, making Develon a fresh but familiar name in the construction industry. In the latest episode of Machine Heads, we take a closer look at how Develon is transitioning from its former identity, focusing on two key products — the DTL35 compact track loader (CTL) and the DX17Z-7 mini excavator.

The Transition from Doosan to Develon

As part of the acquisition by Hyundai in 2021, the equipment line previously known as Doosan was integrated into HD Hyundai Infracore. This marked the beginning of Develon, an independent brand under the Hyundai umbrella. Despite this shift, the company continues to deliver the high-quality machines contractors have come to expect. Develon’s new identity is a reflection of its drive to “develop onward,” blending the brand’s established expertise with renewed energy and expansion.

In this episode of Machine Heads, we dig into two machines that showcase this momentum — the DTL35 compact track loader and the DX17Z-7 mini excavator — both examples of Develon’s commitment to innovation in compact construction equipment.

Develon DTL35: Big in Performance

DEVELON DTL35

Develon’s entry into the compact track loader market is headlined by the DTL35, which targets the growing demand for larger CTLs with impressive power and hydraulic capabilities. The DTL35 offers a rated operating capacity (ROC) of 3,807 lbs, positioning it alongside heavy hitters like the Cat 299 and Bobcat T86.

Powered by a 115-hp Develon D34 engine, the DTL35 comes with both standard and high-flow hydraulic options. This makes it versatile enough to handle a wide range of attachments, from buckets to mulchers. The machine also features a vertical-lift path with a hinge pin height of 10 ft, 9 in. This allows for higher reach on the jobsite.

What sets the DTL35 apart from its competitors is its extensive list of standard features. Ride Control, return-to-dig functions, a reversible fan, and an adjustable, heated air-suspension seat all come standard. Additionally, Develon’s torsion suspension system enhances operator comfort and machine stability on rough terrain.

DX17Z-7: A Compact Powerhouse

In addition to its CTL offerings, Develon is making waves in the mini excavator market with the DX17Z-7. As Develon’s smallest mini excavator, this 2-ton machine is ideal for residential construction, trenching, and tight-space applications.

One of the standout features of the DX17Z-7 is its retractable undercarriage. This allows it to shrink its width to just 39 inches. That makes it easy to navigate through narrow spaces like backyards or doorways. Powered by a 16-hp Kubota engine, this machine offers 4.57 gpm of hydraulic flow. It also has a maximum swing performance of 9.2 rotations per minute. This ensures operators have the power they need for digging, grading and more.

The DX17Z-7 also boasts durability features like a blade float function for easy grading and cylinder guards to protect against on-site collisions. The excavator’s hoses are housed inside the boom structure, enhancing longevity and protection in harsh environments.

Develon’s Future in the Compact Equipment Market

With the introduction of the DTL35 and DX17Z-7, Develon is solidifying its presence in the compact construction equipment market. For a more in-depth look at these new machines, be sure to check out the full Machine Heads video above.
