Video: We Talk Electric Skid Steers with Marcus Suess of Firstgreen Industries

In our latest Machine Heads Interview, Wayne Grayson sits down with Marcus Suess, COO of Firstgreen Industries, to explore their innovative approach to electric compact equipment. Firstgreen stands out for exclusively offering battery-powered skid steers and a stand-on mini track loader. These machines feature remote control operation as a standard and focus on versatility for modern jobsites.

Firstgreen: All-In on Electric Skid Steers

Firstgreen Industries has taken a unique approach to the compact equipment market. The company exclusively manufactures electric skid steers and mini track loaders, making it a standout player in the industry. Based in North Carolina, Firstgreen imports its machines from the Czech Republic, where they are designed and built. The company’s machines eliminate traditional diesel engines, allowing operators to work indoors, in tight spaces, or in environmentally sensitive areas. Remote control operation is a standard feature, with many models offering cabless designs for even more versatility.

Why No Compact Track Loaders?

In the interview, Marcus Suess addresses why Firstgreen has not ventured into compact track loaders (CTLs). The reason lies in battery runtime limitations. Tracks demand significantly more power than wheels, making it challenging to deliver a machine that can run for a full workday without compromising capacity or increasing costs. Instead, Firstgreen has chosen to focus on skid steers, which provide six to ten hours of runtime, depending on the battery configuration. For customers needing tracked capabilities, the company offers over-the-wheel tracks as an accessory.

Remote Control and Hydraulics Add Versatility

Every Firstgreen machine includes remote control capabilities. Operators can use a smartphone or Danfoss controller (above) for operation. This feature makes Firstgreen equipment ideal for applications like ports, sewer work and hazardous demolition. While many manufacturers opt for fully electric systems, Firstgreen retains auxiliary hydraulics. This allows customers to use existing hydraulic attachments or upgrade to Firstgreen’s E attachments, which are powered by electric motors for optimized efficiency.

Marketing an Electric Future

Firstgreen believes its exclusive focus on battery-powered equipment enables faster innovation. Unlike companies balancing diesel and electric products, Firstgreen dedicates all its resources to advancing electric compact equipment. In the Machine Heads Interview, Suess highlights the growing demand for electric machines, driven by cost savings, reduced maintenance and versatility. By eliminating fuel costs, contractors gain a competitive edge in bidding while rental houses benefit from easier maintenance.

The Takeaway: Firstgreen Is a Brand to Watch

Firstgreen Industries is redefining what’s possible with electric skid steers. With innovative designs, customizable battery options, and a clear focus on versatility, this company offers compelling solutions for contractors and rental operators alike. Their commitment to creating machines that meet the demands of a full workday makes them a standout in the compact equipment industry.
