Most brands already make amazing machines. In fact, there’s so much parity of quality in the American off-highway equipment marketplace that differentiators are often hard to find in machine categories. That’s what makes our Innovative Iron Award winners so special. In the last 12 months, these manufacturers have changed the marketplace and even broken the mold in highly competitive markets that are already filled with excellence. Global manufacturers from Kubota and Caterpillar to JLG and JCB have released products — machines, engines, OEM tech and even apps — that have set new standards for power, versatility, efficiency and design. Our editors have traveled across the country to meet these manufacturers, operate their new products and give detailed reports both in print and online. With this article, we do a final salute to those companies that have changed the equipment market over the last year with their unique, interesting and innovative products.

Small But Nimble: The ASV RT-25 and RT-40

ASV is digging out another niche — the smallest track loaders in the industry. Its just-released RT-25 is now the smallest track loader in the market. The RT-25 serves as an awesome economical alternative for contractors, engineered with a 25-hp Perkins diesel engine, 5.1 mph top speed, 1,900-lb tipping load and an 8.4-ft lift height. The RT-25 measures just 48 in. wide. ASV also introduced the RT-40, which has a 48.3-in. width. The 4,175-lb RT-40 features a rated operating capacity of 931 lbs and a tipping load of 2,660 lbs. It features speed as fast as 7.1 mph and a high auxiliary circuit flow rate with a 13.3-gpm pump capacity and 3,000-psi system pressure.

Both units allow contractors and homeowners to complete jobs with ease that may otherwise have been cumbersome with larger machines — like residential areas where fences may need to be removed to let big equipment through or snow clearing on sidewalks, driveways and in alleyways. These small track loaders are being marketed as a safer and more productive alternative to walk-behind and stand-on compact tool carriers or mini skid steers (like a Toro Dingo).
