NAPA Launches Online Work Zone Safety Training Tool
Every year some 20,000 construction workers are injured and an average of 117 are killed in roadway work zones. For paving contractors, effective training is a key part of ensuring workers are able to recognize and mitigate potential safety hazards or unsafe situations.
To support companies in training their workers, the National Asphalt Pavement Association (NAPA) has released CrewSafety: Work Zone Training, a series of web-based work zone safety training modules specific to the asphalt road construction industry. Hands-on demonstrations of the tool will be held on the NAPA booth, GL20703, during CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2020, March 10–14, 2020, in Las Vegas.
Worker injuries and fatalities inside a road construction work zone have remained constant over the past few years. CrewSafety was developed in partnership with the American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA) to fill the need for a comprehensive training system to help address this problem. The tool includes a Fundamentals of Internal Traffic Control module, along with job-specific modules for equipment operators, drivers, laborers, and supervisors.
