Top Safety Systems from Niftylift That Protect MEWP Operators
New Systems Reduce Risk and Enhance Jobsite Awareness
Niftylift recently sent out a press release about several newish technologies that its employed to improve operator safety on mobile elevating work platforms (you know, MEWPs). From guarding against entrapment to preventing use on unstable ground, these systems provide critical safeguards for contractors working at height, which is dangerous work. These safety systems come standard or optional on many of its compact, hybrid and electric boom lifts now working across North America. From the press release:
“Niftylift is synonymous with innovations in operator safety, introducing technologies over the years that have redefined safety standards, addressing critical risks in working at height, including entrapment, overloading, harness misuse, and unsafe tilting,” concludes Tom Hadden, technical sales manager, Niftylift. ‘Together, they enhance operational efficiency and provide operators with the confidence they need to work safely at height. We are committed to continuing to lead the industry in promoting safer working practices worldwide.”
SiOPS Helps Stop Entrapment Before It Escalates
Involuntary operation is a major safety risk on MEWPs. If an operator is pushed into the control panel, the machine could continue to move, worsening the situation. Niftylift’s SiOPS (Sustained Involuntary Operation Prevention System) stops movement immediately. It senses pressure on the controls and cuts all operations. To resume, the operator must press a flashing green button. This system is now standard on all Niftylift self-propelled MEWPs.
ToughCage Reduces Boom and Basket Damage
To improve operator protection and extend machine life, Niftylift developed its reinforced ToughCage platform. The design includes a larger cross-section steel frame and impact-resistant composite base. It absorbs impact force and minimizes damage to the boom or cage. This reduces repair costs while increasing safety in the event of accidental contact with structures or objects.
Inclination Sensing Stops Unsafe Use on Slopes
Tilted platforms pose serious hazards. Niftylift’s Inclination Sensing system blocks boom operation if a unit is on a slope beyond safe limits. It triggers alerts and disables drive functions until the booms are returned to the stowed position. This safeguard is especially useful on uneven jobsites or when operators attempt to drive with the boom raised.
ClipOn System Verifies Harness Connection
Niftylift’s ClipOn harness system helps operators properly connect personal fall protection equipment (PFPE). The system uses red and green LED indicators, plus audible alarms, to confirm harness attachment. This feature improves compliance and ensures safe work-at-height practices.
Load Sensing Prevents Overloading the Basket
The company’s Load Sensing system monitors platform weight. If the basket is overloaded, work functions are disabled until the load is reduced. Operators can use a recovery button to safely lower the platform if the system trips mid-operation. This reduces strain on the machine and avoids hazardous operation with excessive loads.
Niftylink Adds Control, Data and Access Management
The Niftylink telematics system helps owners and fleet managers monitor machine health, track location and manage usage. An optional keypad allows access control via PIN or RFID-enabled PAL card. This prevents untrained personnel from using the equipment. Niftylink supports better maintenance and training oversight, reducing downtime and risk.
NiftyPRO App Brings Training to the Jobsite
To complement its hardware safety tech, Niftylift launched the NiftyPRO mobile app. It provides over 100 training videos covering operation, safety and recovery topics. The app helps bridge the gap between classroom training and field application. Available for smartphones and tablets, it supports operators, fleet managers and technicians with on-demand guidance.
Celebrating 40 Years of Safety Innovation
These latest developments coincide with two big anniversaries. Niftylift recently marked 40 years in business and five years of U.S. operations at its Greer, South Carolina, facility. The company’s legacy of compact lift innovation continues with a strong focus on sustainability, service and jobsite safety.
