Cement Your Business: Start the Construction Year Right with World of Concrete (This Week!)
What is World of Concrete? Some sci-fi-sounding planet from the new Star Wars? The ultimate, radtastical skate park? Or the quintessential concrete and masonry trade show and the first international annual event of the year? Find out for yourself when you visit WOC 2017 in Las Vegas, Jan. 16-20. Hint: It’s not the first two.
Last year, World of Concrete 2016 attracted 60,000-plus professional registrants and showcased just over 1,500 leading suppliers. WOC 2017 will similarly feature exhibitors from around the world. Areas of the show floor include everything from The Producer Center, a marketplace of materials, equipment and demos for concrete producers, to World of Masonry, showcasing products, tools, information and technology for masonry professionals. New for 2017 is the Concrete Masonry section in the North Hall, showcasing everything for the producers of concrete masonry (block, segmental retaining wall units, veneer, slabs, pavers and more.)
Decorative Concrete LIVE! Las Vegas 2017 will take the stage at WOC 2017. A must-see for every WOC attendee, it’s the place top artisans and innovators from across the United States and around the world will gather to showcase the best in architectural and decorative concrete.
Get in on the action at World of Concrete with exciting competitions located in the Gold Lot, in front of North Hall. Returning favorites include the John Deere Operator Challenge, Western Star Trucks Get Tough Challenge and the Spec Mix Bricklayer 500 World Championship.
The show’s world-class education program will also be in full swing, featuring: 29 three-hour seminars; 45 90-minute seminars; nine four-hour certification seminars and examinations; 11 hands-on training events; two construction boot camps for field management; three decorative workshops with live demonstrations; and four train-the-trainer courses that meet state and federal requirements. There’s so much more that we can’t possibly include it all here.
We suggest you visit the WOC website frequently at worldofconcrete.com.

Cat 300.9D VPS Mini Excavator with Emissions-Sensitive Option
Caterpillar has added the model 300.9D VPS (Versatile Power System) to its range of mini hydraulic excavators. The versatile design of the 300.9D VPS benefits both the owner/operator and the rental company by allowing the machine — in conjunction with its separate hydraulic power unit — to work either with its diesel engine or from a remote electrical power source, with no loss of performance. Having an electrical drive system remote from the machine enhances utilization and rental options. The 300.9D VPS can be rented alone for regular applications or with the hydraulic power unit when the job requires low noise and zero emission.
