Kubota Compact Excavators — 2014 Spec Guide
Kubota launched Kubota Tractor Corp. in the United States in 1974 with an initial introduction of a 12-hp, four-wheel drive compact tractor, the first of its kind in the compact sector. The model became a benchmark for the industry, and today Kubota equipment is sold and serviced in the United States through a nationwide network of more than 1,100 authorized Kubota dealers supported by the company’s corporate headquarters in Torrance, Calif. Relying on combined maneuverability, power and reliability, the Kubota compact excavator lineup is versatile, with machines ranging from 1 to 8 tons and virtually every weight class in between. Models with zero, tight or conventional tail swing are available with an offering of 10 to 70 gross hp. The full line of Kubota compact excavators includes the U-Series zero and tight tail swing models and the KX-Series conventional tail swing models: U17, U25S, U35-4, U55-4, K008-3, KX018-4, KX71-3S, KX91-3S2, KX040-4, KX121-3S, KX057-4 and KX080-4.
The KX-Series touts low sound level, increasing operator comfort and allowing work in residential areas. The light lever action of the hydraulic pilot controls provides enhanced front work group control. Save time and work more efficiently using the optional hydraulic angle blade with float, available on the U35-4, U55-4, KX91-3S2, KX040-4, KX121-3S, KX057-4 and KX080-4 models.
Kubota’s hydraulic 6-in-1 blade is a Kubota-exclusive option, available on the Kubota KX121-3S and KX040-4 compact excavators. Performance-enhancing features include a load-sensing hydraulic system, matched speed and power balance and digging force. With a simple movement of the dozer lever, Kubota’s hydraulic 6-in-1 blade can be angled to the right or left to push soil to the side as the machine moves forward, eliminating the need for repetitive repositioning at right angles when backfilling trenches. The blade’s capacity is increased almost 3/4 cu yds over the standard blade.
Kubota’s U-Series zero and tight tail swing excavators are an ideal choice for productivity. Available in four models, the U-Series excavators come equipped with a Kubota E-TVCS (Emissions-Three Vortex Combustion System) diesel engine for smooth running, high torque and increased power. Features include large-capacity variable displacement pumps, strong bucket breakout forces, two pattern selection systems for switching between ISO and SAE patterns, double-flanged lower track rollers, V-shaped lugs and a variable width track frame on the U17.
Depending on model, available implements and accessories include a hydraulic angle blade, ROPS/OPG top guard cab or canopy, pin-on and quick-attach buckets and beyond.
Advice to Buyers
“In today’s economy, it’s important for a customer to know their financing options with any equipment purchase,” says Keith Rohrbacker, Kubota product manager. “A dealer should be able to tailor a variety of finance programs to meet the specific requirements of the purchaser. For credit, customers should look for preapproved financing options that allow them to enter a dealership with solid expectations. Leasing is also a great option for ease of budgeting and enables the customer to generate revenue from new equipment without tying up cash and credit.”
