Innovative Iron Awards: Wacker Neuson’s 803 Dual Power Excavator
The Visionary Commercial Equipment of 2014
The heart and soul of a good company is the creativity it brings to a marketplace.
Innovation (as we’ll call it) is both the knowledge a business bestows to an industry and also the imagination in which it approaches its products and customers. In many ways, 2014 has been a tough year for contractors and manufacturers, so now it seems like an appropriate time to celebrate some of the big success stories — contractors who have become leaner and more agile, companies that have diversified and gained market share and manufacturers who have kept trailblazing with ever more efficient and innovative equipment. With this article we salute the companies (from Cat to Kubota) that have changed the commercial equipment market over the last 12 months with their unique, interesting and innovative machines, engines and technologies.
Digging with Dual Power
Wacker Neuson Launches Unique Dual Power Excavator with Zero Emissions
At CONEXPO-CON/AGG, Wacker Neuson introduced an innovative one-ton excavator that can run off diesel or electric power, making it a truly groundbreaking machine. The new 803 Dual Power mini excavator runs off a standard diesel engine or can easily be connected to an electro-hydraulic pump, allowing the machine to operate emissions-free. This innovative solution is perfect for interior excavating and demolition. The new 803 Dual Power features a dedicated connection in the undercarriage where the electro-hydraulic pump, HPU8, attaches to the excavator. For convenience, long 12-meter hoses connect the HPU8 and the 803 undercarriage, allowing the mini excavator to still rotate 360 degrees. Accessibility on the job is easy since it is narrow enough to fit through standard interior doors. In the conventional operation, the 803 is powered by a proven 13-hp diesel engine, which provides the small excavator enough power for breaking applications. When connected to the HPU8 electo-hydraulic pump, the 803 runs emissions-free with the same best-in-class performance. The dual power system requires 480V, three-phase, 30-amp electricity.
