U.S. Representative, Michigan City Mayor Tour Hitachi Global Air Power Facility

U.S. Rep. Frank J. Mrvan, representing northwestern Indiana, paid a visit to one of the Hoosier state’s many manufacturing firms June 18, stopping by the Michigan City headquarters of Hitachi Global Air Power U.S.
With the visit focusing on advanced manufacturing, workforce development, and community investment, the company says the visit showcased its ongoing investments to the sitting Congressman. Those investments, centered around the company’s “innovative compressed air solutions,” have reinforced its position as a market leader and premier employer for the northwestern Indiana region.
“Thank you to all of the leaders and employees with Hitachi Global Air Power for the opportunity to see firsthand the latest investments and innovations at your facility in Michigan City,” says Rep. Mrvan. “I am grateful for your dedication and commitment to the strength of Northwest Indiana’s economy, our workforce, and our exemplary manufacturing capabilities.”
The company’s presence in Michigan City has been a major contributing factor to the region’s economic growth, Hitachi representatives say. Going forward, Mrvan, Michigan City Mayor Angie Nelson Deuitch, and the firm hope to keep the region as a manufacturing hotspot for the American Midwest.
Supporting Indiana’s future
Hitachi has made “significant upgrade” to the Michigan City facility in recent years, company officials say, both enhancing production capacity and prioritizing environmental sustainability. Specifically, the firm has contributed a capital investment of $30 million for the construction of a new 80,000 sq. ft. fabrication shop, a new canopied building for storage, an additional employee parking lot, and optimization of its energy footprint.
Deuitch says that Hitachi’s recent work has been a major driver of progress for Michigan City, and will continue to move the city forward in the near future.
“Hitachi Global Air Power has been an important part of Michigan City’s story for generations, and we are proud to see the company continuing to invest in its people, its facilities, and our community,” she says. “These investments strengthen our local economy, create opportunities for our workforce, and reinforce Michigan City’s reputation as a place where advanced manufacturing continues to thrive.”
Alongside bolstering the city’s manufacturing sector, Hitachi has made major strides in both environmental sustainability efforts and community outreach, the company says. The company recently donated a mural to the city for Sullair’s 60th anniversary in Michigan City, and has established a ‘Woodland Restoration Partnership’ with the International Friendship Botanic Gardens (FBG) in Pottawattamie Park, Indiana.
“Welcoming Congressman Mrvan, Mayor Nelson Deuitch, and our partners from the Michigan City Chamber of Commerce is an honor,” says Hideki Fujimoto, President & CEO of Hitachi Global Air Power. “Our Michigan City facility plays a vital role in our global operations, and we are proud to invest in this community. Through innovation, sustainability efforts, and collaboration with local stakeholders, we are building a stronger future together.”
