Celebrating twenty years of bringing the asphalt paving industry together, World of Asphalt, returning in person March 29-31 at the Music City Center in Nashville, Tenn., honored twenty asphalt paving companies with $500 toward sending their crews to the show. The randomly selected companies can be found from Miami to Santa Cruz, from the Big Easy to the Twin Cities, and range from 2 to 4,200 employees.

“World of Asphalt wanted to give something back to the attending companies that make the show possible as we celebrate our twentieth anniversary,” said Brittany Weltcheff, show manager for World of Asphalt. “We originally planned to help them attend the 2021 show, but the pandemic prevented us from gathering like we planned. Now we can’t wait to see these asphalt paving professionals in Nashville this year.”

The first World of Asphalt was held in February 2001 at the Wyndham Palace Resort in Orlando, Fla. as a cooperative effort between the National Asphalt Pavement Association (NAPA) and the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM), and has run every year except CONEXPO-CON/AGG years since.

The show has grown quite a bit in those twenty years as well. The 2001 show had 3,200 asphalt paving pros seeing 28,000 square feet of displays from 86 exhibitors. The 2022 show will have more than 440 exhibitors spread out over more than 193,000 square feet, while the last in-person show in Indianapolis in 2019 welcomed more than 10,000 attendees.

For a traveling show, Nashville has been World of Asphalt’s most frequent home. The 2022 show will be the fourth time the Music City has hosted asphalt paving professionals for this event, after 2003, 2004 and 2016. The show has traveled as far east as Baltimore (2015), as far west as San Antonio (2013), as far north as Indianapolis (2019), and south to Orlando (most recently in 2009).

World of Asphalt has long been a place for people in the asphalt paving industry to learn and break new ground. The 2022 show will have 150 different education sessions, and the Women of Asphalt will once again host a breakout session, as it has every year since its founding in 2017.

“World of Asphalt has been a tremendous success, benefitting the entire asphalt paving industry – and ultimately our customers,” said Dr. Audrey Copeland, president and CEO of NAPA, majority-owner of the show. “Having kept this show and conference a centerpiece of our industry for twenty years is something I’m particularly proud of, and I look forward to building on this legacy over the next twenty years.”
