Caterpillar Compact Track Loader Specs and Product Line Summary for 2025

Next Gen Units Offer More Power, More Performance and More Comfort
Building upon more than 20 years of compact track loader experience, Caterpillar collaborated with owners and operators to deliver the 255, 265, 275, 275 XE, 285 and 285 XE. Highlighting the new machine lineup, the 285 XE ushers in a new level of capability for Cat CTLs, with an operating weight of 13,669 lbs, a 35 percent rated operating capacity (ROC) of 4,520 lbs and a lift height of 146 in. Rated at 121 hp, this machine boosts to 134 hp when attached to a high-flow work tool and provides 40 gpm at 4,496 psi.
All next generation Cat CTLs offer a reimagined operator station designed for more comfort and productivity. An overall increase in volume and enhanced adjustability provides operators of all sizes with a more comfortable workspace. The available enclosed cab with climate control, as well as optional heated and ventilated seats, provide maximum comfort in all conditions. A redesigned operator interface moves all the most commonly used machine controls to the front right pillar, including an electronic throttle control and optional push button start. The optional advanced technology packages are equipped with an 8-in. touchscreen monitor and advanced joysticks.
Cool Technology and Powerful Hydraulics
The advanced touchscreen monitor supports the optional side cameras that provide operators with a view down behind the tracks which, coupled with the standard rear camera, provides 180 degrees of visibility out the rear of the machine. The advanced joysticks enable integrated control of the advanced touchscreen monitor, so all machine function controls and adjustments can be made without the operator removing their hands from the controls. A standard monitor and joystick package brings all the capabilities of the D3 advanced technology package and still supports functionality for rearview camera feed, creep control, job clock and maintenance reminders.
A new closed-center hydraulic valve increases standard pressure to 3,500 psi and enables Smart Attachment usage with all next generation machines. The largest Cat models, the 275 XE and 285 XE, provide 134 gross hp, even higher flow (up to 40 gpm and higher pressure up to 4,061 psi). In addition, Caterpillar offers Land Management packages for both models, delivering a purpose-built solution for customers involved in demanding vegetation management apps. The 275 and 285 machines have a factory installed rear auxiliary option. This rear aux can be paired with either a winch or ripper/scarifier kit to further expand the capabilities and versatility of Cat CTLs.
The 255 and 265 models continue with the standard fully independent, torsion suspension undercarriage. This undercarriage suspension system distributes the machine load to greatly reduce shock and vibration throughout the machine to provide greater load retention and a more comfortable ride, even when operating at higher travel speeds. Brand new for the industry, the 275 and 285 come standard with a new equalizer bar (E-Bar) undercarriage that provides increased stability for grading and handling heavier loads. Both undercarriage styles provide increased stability to enhance gradability, as well as handle increased breakout (up to 13,920 lbs) and increased lift heights of up to 146 in.
Compact Track Loader Advice to Buyers
“When buying a machine, it is important to get in a machine and try it out to get a feel for its performance, visibility and comfort,” says Morgan Timiney, Caterpillar sales support consultant. “Get an idea of how the controls are integrated, how the visibility is when working and whether it will complete the job. Additionally, it is important to consider the adjustability and customization of the machine to many types of operators. As it gets harder to find experienced operators, preferences such as sensitivities, speed limits and integrated technologies will become increasingly important.”
