A Deep Dive into Yanmar’s Recently Completed Compact Equipment Lineup

Yanmar North America recently announced it has a freshly minted fleet of red compact equipment ready for rental or purchase. I saw these machines lined up under the Georgia sun in early June. Track loaders, mini excavators, compact wheel loaders, crawler carriers — every unit open for inspection and operation. Yanmar Compact Equipment hosted its 2025 Media Day at its very cool looking EVO Center in Acworth, Georgia, inviting journalists to see and operate what the company says is now its complete line of small earthmoving equipment, all painted a sharp red color scheme.
“Upgrading our portfolio has been a core priority in North America, and as you see we’ve been very active and very busy,” explained Anna Christine Sgro, new Yanmar CE North American president, giving a presentation during our visit. “We’re focusing on strengthening our key product lines like our compact wheel loaders, our compact track loaders, our mini excavators. We want to stay sharp and competitive in the market, and at the same time we’re putting energy into meeting the evolving needs of the customer with innovation and performance. Yanmar is deeply committed to becoming a truly customer-centric company. And this means putting our customers at the core of everything that we do. We’re not just selling machines. We’re creating a real long-term value for those that use them.”
Yanmar has continued to create value for its customers over the last few years, ramping up its offerings and services in North America with the help of its acquisition of compact track loader pioneer ASV in 2019. The company also has a long history of building diesel engines for its machines as well as for a whole host of other competitive brands ranging from Toro and John Deere to Ditch Witch and Wacker Neuson. Now with a complete line of its own machines and the ASV brand, Yanmar has considerable flex in the American market, so we decided to dig into this classic equipment company and its big recent moves in the sector.
The History Behind Yanmar CE
Located just north of Atlanta, the EVO Center is an impressive 50,000-sq-ft facility, which includes classrooms, showrooms, a museum wall, merchandise store, video studio and outdoor demo grounds. See photo above. It’s an actual Yanmar dealership for tractors and UTVs, but it’s also multi-functional — one part dealer training hub, one part demo zone and one part brand showcase. The center’s futuristic design has even landed it some TV work, including this episode of MacGyver. Trade journalists got the opportunity to tour the EVO Center. Then they had access to Yanmar Compact Equipment North American executives, product managers and machines.
“We see North America becoming our largest contributor to global compact equipment sales in the years ahead,” said Sgro. “To reach that goal, we’re continuing to leverage our global capabilities, align our teams, and stay sharply focused on the value we deliver to our customers and dealer partners worldwide. A key part of our strategy is to increase local production to support regional demand, which is why we’ve been significantly expanding operations in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, including our manufacturing and parts distribution facilities.”
Yanmar has had a presence in North America since 1979, but Yanmar CE began in America with the acquisition of ASV in 2019. The division now runs its North American headquarters out of ASV’s Grand Rapids, Minnesota, production facility, where it manufacturers and builds compact track loaders and skid steers. In 2023, Yanmar CE announced a 32,000-sq-ft expansion in Grand Rapids that focused on new paint systems (think Yanmar red) and more manufacturing capacity for parts. In 2024, Yanmar rolled out its first compact track loaders, manufactured in that same plant. The company makes its other units overseas in places like France and Japan. In fact, this past spring Yanmar celebrated a major production milestone, building its 300,000th mini excavator at its Chikugo Plant in Fukuoka Prefecture — Yanmar’s primary manufacturing hub since 2004.
Yanmar Prepares for an Electric Future
The company has also committed to battery powered equipment. In 2022, Yanmar acquired Eleo Technologies, a Netherlands-based battery manufacturer specializing in off-highway applications. In 2025, Yanmar announced its Electrification Unit, which will focus on developing e-powertrain solutions, including batteries and eDrives, to support the growing demand for zero-emissions construction and industrial equipment. Yanmar CE currently offers three electric machines — its V8e wheel loader, SV17e mini excavator and the C08e carrier/power buggy — which are only available in Europe right now. As far as diesel, in America, the brand’s completed lineup of compact equipment includes four models of compact track loaders, 10 models of mini excavators, five models of compact wheel loaders and two models of compact tracked carriers.
“With our broader, more complete lineup, we’re positioning ourselves as a true one-stop shop for equipment, maintenance and long-term support,” said Sgro. “It means there’s more convenience and more efficiency, and we’ll create a stronger partnership with our customers. Now that we have a complete full line offering in place, we’re ready to take the next step. We’re going to build on this momentum.”
Yanmar’s Compact Track Loaders
On June 10, Yanmar CE sent out a press release stating that its compact equipment lineup was now complete, following the introduction of its compact track loaders, now available at dealer lots across North America. The CTL launch is the result of several years of planning and development. We teased these models at CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2023. In 2025, Yanmar sells four CTL models: the TL65RS-1C, TL75VS-1C, TL80VS-1C and TL100VS. These construction-grade machines range from 67 to 103.5 hp and incorporate modern design features like torsion axle undercarriages, glass-heavy cabs, roof escape hatches, ride control, dual direction self-leveling and return-to-position technology. All models come equipped with a touchscreen display and optional telematics system, SmartAssist Remote.
“For the past five years, since Yamar acquired ASV, they’ve been working on a ground up development of the Yamar compact track loader,” said Peter Ovrebo, product management director at Yanmar. “We started with the TL100VS at the end of 2023, and then, what we’re calling our mid-frame models, the TL65RS, TL75VS and TL80VS, came in late summer of last year. Going along with those models in the ASV brand, we also launched six new models. Two of those are dedicated just to the forestry industry and those forestry customers with the VT-80 Forestry and the VT-100 Forestry.” Combined with these new models, Yanmar now offers 11 ASV branded CTLs ranging from 25 horsepower to 132 horsepower.
Spec Breakdowns for all Four Models with a Focus on Undercarriages
Each Yanmar branded CTL is engineered with a torsion axle undercarriage and pivot link system for improved ride quality and material retention. These CTLs also feature heavy-duty bar-tread tracks designed to perform in soft or snowy conditions, with a focus on traction and vibration reduction combined with the standard suspended seat. The automatic ride control technology uses a hydraulic-spring load to d stabilize the loader arms, helping to improve material retention.
“Each side is independent, so you basically have four independent points of suspension on these machines,” said Ovrebo. “Really what that suspension does is it allows for a smoother ride for the operator. It reduces wear and vibration on the machine that is common with rigid undercarriages. It also helps maintain better ground contact with a track to the ground, especially as you’re entering a dig.”
The TL65RS-1C is the smallest of the four models, offering high maneuverability and transportability, especially on confined jobsites. The unit is Yanmar’s only radial-lift machine, sporting a hinge pin height of 10 ft, weight of 8,575 lbs and rated operating capacity of 2,100 lbs. TL65RS-1C boasts a 67-hp Yanmar engine. The TL75VS-1C and TL80VS-1C serve as midsize options, with vertical-lift paths and excellent rated operating capacities (2,555 and 2,900 lbs respectively). Both offer excellent auxiliary hydraulic capabilities for demanding attachments. The TL75VS-1C offers standard flow at 21.4 gpm (3,480 psi) and high flow at 26.7 gpm (3,771 psi), and the TL80VS-1C offers standard flow at 24.7 gpm (3,480 psi) and high flow at 34.3 gpm (3,771 psi). The TL100VS stands at the top of the lineup, boasting over 100 hp and the highest ROC of the group at 3,780 lbs. TL100VS is ideal for improved productivity in construction work, rental applications and landscaping jobs with a hinge pin height of 11 ft and high-flow aux hydraulics of 41 gpm (3,989 psi).
Cabs and Maintenance for Yanmar Compact Track Loaders
A state-of-the-art, touchscreen 7-in. color display comes standard with each of the compact track loaders for improved convenience on the jobsite. All models also include features like return-to-position technology, auto two-speed, dual direction self-leveling and speed-sensitive ride control to improve operator efficiency and shorten learning curves.
“You’ll see that all of our Yamar CTLs use electronic hydraulic controls [EH controls],” said Ovrebo. “That means we have the ability to use an electrical system in this machine to do various functions, productivity functions. For instance, this machine is set up with angle sensors on it to be able to do dual direction self-leveling. Most of the competitors out there are using a hydraulic pilot operated controls that only allow self-leveling in one direction.”
Daily service points are easily accessible, and the swing-out radiators, removable skid plates and panel access make routine maintenance straightforward. Combined with highly durable bar-tread tracks, Tier-4 Final engines and convenient serviceability features, Yanmar’s compact track loaders provide maximum ROI. Each machine features a two-year/2,000-hour warranty. These units also offer great visibility as well.
“One thing that you might see that’s unique to these machines is we don’t have any side grates on them,” noted Ovrebo. “You have clear glass all the way around the machine for really unparalleled visibility. This is a very similar design to what ASV has had on their Max-Series cabs for about five years. I know some operators, customers and dealers are worried about the glass being damaged. What I’ll say is when it comes to selling replacement side glass, we really don’t sell many.”
Yanmar CE Mini Excavators
Yanmar CE offers a complete line of 10 rugged, operator-friendly mini diggers built for power, efficiency and dependability. From seven zero tail machines that operate in tight places to a 10-ton class unit ready for major earthwork, Yanmar’s mini excavator range combines big diesel performance with modern creature comforts and smart technology, all backed by an industry-leading four-year/4,000-hour warranty and five years of free telematics.
“I would say probably the two biggest differentiators for Yanmar mini excavators is first off reliability,” said Ovrebo. “We hear it time and time again speaking to customers and maybe more importantly dealers is one of the pains is that once they sell a mini excavator, they never see it again because it’s so reliable. It hardly needs to come in for any repairs outside of normal maintenance. So, reliability with mini excavators is probably one of the biggest differentiators in the market. Aside from that, what you’ll see with a lot of our mini excavators is our power-to-size-class ratio. Even though they fall into a traditional size class, they perform better. They perform like a bigger machine within that size class.”
Starting with the Big Mini Excavators
At the top end of the line are the ViO80-7 and SV100-7 — two redesigned models that deliver big machine performance with a compact footprint. These excavators feature powerful Yanmar Tier 4 Final engines (67 hp and 72 hp respectively), significantly improved hydraulic efficiency, enhanced digging capabilities and upgraded cab comfort. The zero tail swing ViO80-7 has a max dig depth of 14 ft, 3 in. and the “ultra” tight tail swing SV100-7 has a max dig depth of 14 ft, 11 in. Yanmar’s 2-Pump Load Sensing system boost both productivity and fuel economy, while features like rear and side cameras, 360-degree visibility and a new 7-in. LCD display ensures safer, more intuitive operation on crowded jobsites.
“This is our ViO80-7,” said Zac Evans, Yanmar product manager for excavators and carriers (pictured above), giving journalists a walkaround of the unit. “This is our update from the previous generation being the ViO80-2A model. We did some refinement on the hydraulic system and a very large improvement to the cab environment. Then, we integrated what I would say is the right amount of technology into the machine. We improved the telematics, but we also really improved the maintenance tracking and service error readouts within the display. A major stand out feature for this model is the dual locking hydraulic quick coupler which is standard on both the ViO80-7 and SV100-7. This is a variable pin grabber type coupler that can connect to attachments that vary in pin size and center distance—a game changer on any jobsite.”
The Mid-Range ViO35-7 Mini Excavator
Sitting in the mid-range is the ViO35-7, a zero-tail swing model that brings a new level of speed, versatility and configurability to the 8,000-lb class. Its 24.4-hp Yanmar engine powers an advanced three-pump hydraulic system for smooth and efficient control while optimizing cycle times and provide excellent simultaneous function performance. Travel speed under load is up 25 percent from the previous generation, while improved cabin visibility, upgraded controls and new auxiliary hydraulic options make this a highly adaptable machine for both contractors and rental fleets.
“This new iteration of the ViO35 elevates both what operators can do and their experience while doing it,” said Evans. “Yanmar listened to customers and delivered an upgraded model that’s easier to use and move around the jobsite. The ViO35-7 brings new levels of productivity while maintaining unbeatable reliability.”
Yanmar’s Smallest Mini Excavators
On the smaller end, models like the SV08-1D and ViO17-1E prove that size doesn’t limit capability. With retractable undercarriages, tight tail swing designs and quiet, clean diesel power, these machines are built for precision work in confined environments like residential interiors, landscaping and utility installation. The SV40 and ViO55-6A round out the lineup with 39 to 47.6 hp and nearly 12 to 14 ft of dig depth, making them ideal crossover machines for those looking for a balance of mobility and muscle.
Across the board, Yanmar CE’s mini excavators stand out for their operator-centric design, fuel efficiency (Eco mode and auto-deceleration) and less time hooking up attachments with its plug-and-play hydraulic quick coupler technology. Combined with factory-installed SmartAssist Remote telematics and an expanding North American support network, Yanmar CE aims to deliver compact excavators that outwork and outlast the competition.
Ycare Extended Warranty and Y.O.U. Club
Beyond the iron, Yanmar used Media Days to roll out new customer support programs aimed at boosting confidence and uptime. The company debuted its Ycare Extended Warranty, offering up to seven years or 7,000 hours of coverage for its compact equipment and attachments. Ycare is available in three plan levels — Comprehensive, Powertrain and Powertrain Plus Hydraulics — and is fully transferable to support resale value. It complements Yanmar’s base warranty and can be added anytime during that warranty period. The company also launched a similar program under the ASV brand, called Max-Guard, providing extended coverage for its Posi-Track line.
Another major announcement was the creation of the Y.O.U. Club (Yanmar Operators United), a new operator engagement platform. The initiative is part digital community, part live competition series. The online portal allows operators to share stories, take skill quizzes, submit photos of their projects and learn from educational articles. Meanwhile, live operator competitions will be held at tradeshows and dealer events across North America, using Yanmar equipment in timed challenges focused on speed, precision and control. The club is open to all operators, not just Yanmar owners, and is built around celebrating the skill and community behind compact equipment.
Yanmar CE Compact Wheel Loaders
Compact wheel loaders continue to attract new customers in North America, and Yanmar CE has five options focused on maneuverability, efficiency and performance. These units fit into a variety of applications — from landscaping and snow removal to municipalities and material handling. The lineup spans from the ultra-compact V4-7 to the powerhouse V12, giving operators a range of options to match jobsite demands. Every machine except for the V12 is powered by a Tier 4 Final Yanmar diesel engine and backed by a three-year/3,000-hour warranty, reinforcing the brand’s reputation for reliability and low total cost of ownership.
“Compact wheel loaders are a little-known gem within the Yanmar CE lineup,” said Ovrebo. “As our dealers have a long history with mini excavators and we see the growing potential of compact track loaders, compact wheel loaders are a market that we see a lot of potential with a lot of growth in it, especially on the small articulated loader side. It seems to be energizing a lot of customers out there. They’re seeing the versatility of that product, and this is something that we’re really proud to offer, especially given the breadth of these products here.”
The New Yanmar V7 Compact Wheel Loader
The newest unit is the V7, which slots neatly between the V4-7 and V8, delivering a smart mix of transportability and power. Weighing 9,370 lbs and boasting 47.6 hp, the V7 features a 0.92 yd³ bucket capacity, or over 1 yd³ with an optional light material bucket. Its standout features include a center-mounted articulation-oscillation joint, parallel kinematics for material stability and creep mode for precision control. The enclosed cab version offers excellent visibility, dual-entry doors, ergonomic controls, Bluetooth radio and a heated, high-backed suspension seat — all designed to keep operators comfortable and productive.
“We also have our halogen turn signals and lights on this V7,” said Frank Gangi, product manager of compact wheel loaders and carriers. “We also have two front and two rear LED work lights on top with the standard rotating beacon. Pull that arm down, and now you’re going to get to about an 8-ft height, so you’re able to go inside a parking garage or container. That’s one unique thing about this unit. You can actually park this machine in a container. The guy’s doing snow. They go off and do their job. You got a container on site. You can drive this up in there and put it inside a container.”
At the more compact end, the V4-7 provides a nimble and capable 8,422-lb package with a 39-hp engine and 0.65 yd³ bucket. Its rear axle oscillation, Auto-Leveler tech and optional cab with heat and A/C make it ideal for confined spaces and varied terrain. On the other end of the spectrum, the V12 tops the lineup with 100 hp and a massive 2.35 yd³ bucket capacity. It blends brute strength with refined controls, including fully automatic hydrostatic drive, auto-level bucket control and a smooth ride thanks to its oscillating rear axle and premium operator station.
The Bigger V8 and V10 Compact Wheel Loaders
Between these bookends, models like the V8 (62 hp, 1.57 yd³) and V10 (73 hp, 1.96 yd³) offer even more lifting power, stability and hydraulic capability, including dynamic braking and compatibility with a wide array of attachments. Across the board, Yanmar compact wheel loaders are engineered to maximize jobsite efficiency, with fast travel speeds, easy service access and intuitive pilot controls — giving operators everything they need to lift, load and lead.
“From the V4 up to our V10, you can get a skid steer coupler for attachments,” noted Gangi. “The V12 is just too powerful of a machine with that type of coupler. We’re kind of working on developing a coupler that’ll work at that size. Another big highlight is travel speed. The V7 goes 18.6 miles per hour. We kind of talked about skid steers being replaced by wheel loaders just because of versatility. You get higher travel speeds. You’re not going to damage the ground as much as you would on a skid steer wheeled machine [because of articulation]. And then when you get the capabilities of that coupler, now the versatility increases and a lot of folks are taking a look at these as a potential replacements for skid steers.”
Yanmar CE’s Complete Lineup Is Ready for Operation
Taken together, Yanmar’s compact equipment lineup is ready to work the modern jobsite. The outdoor demos at Media Day gave journalists the opportunity to see and feel that. The machines were put to work in a variety of test environments, including muddy local terrain and competitive skill events. Writers were able to evaluate machine visibility, joystick controls, responsiveness, maneuverability and general ease of operation in a real-world setting. This was a chance to validate the spec sheets with seat time — and the machines delivered.
Of course Yanmar’s 2025 Media Day wasn’t just about showing off machines. It was about proving the company’s readiness to compete across the board in North America’s highly competitive compact equipment market. With a full machine lineup, extended warranty coverage (see the sidebar) and expanded U.S. manufacturing, Yanmar is making its case not just as an excavator and engine specialist, but as a compact equipment powerhouse. The Georgia clay served as a perfect proving ground for a company with a long history and a bright future.
“We have over a hundred years of legacy behind Yanmar,” said Elsie De Nys, Yanmar CE global director of brand and corporate social responsibility. “Yanmar Compact Equipment has 55 years of experience. In 1933, we developed the first small diesel engine and then in 1968 we introduced the first self-propelled excavator. Today, we’re the world’s second largest manufacturer of compact excavators. We will continue this innovation as we develop new products and new services for markets like North America.”

Yanmar CE’s Tracked Carriers
Yanmar CE’s tracked carrier lineup in North America includes two rugged models — the C30R-3 and C50R-5 — engineered to conquer challenging terrain where wheeled haulers can’t go. These machines deliver Yanmar diesel performance in compact, low-ground-pressure designs ideal for soft soil, steep slopes or tight jobsites. The 46-hp C30R-3 offers a 5,512-lb payload and features a 180-degree swivel dump bed and reversible operator station, allowing operators to dump material exactly where it’s needed — even in confined or sensitive environments. Weighing just 5,843 lbs, the nimble carrier brings standout traction and smooth control via a two-speed hydrostatic transmission, plus added safety from a certified ROPS/FOPS canopy.
At the larger end of the range, the C50R-5 boasts 111.5 hp and a best-in-class 8,379-lb payload, backed by a heavy-duty design purpose-built for extreme applications. Whether slogging through mud, snow, sand or swamps, this tracked carrier offers superior stability and comfort with an optional cab, panoramic visibility and intuitive controls. Both models benefit from steel-reinforced rubber tracks, Tier 4 Final engines and the support of Yanmar’s three-year/3,000-hour warranty. Operators can boost uptime with SmartAssist telematics and service-friendly layouts.
