Rep. Peter DeFazio Wins Industry ‘We Dig America’ Award
In recognition of his tireless service to America’s communities through his work as the chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, the National Utility Contractors Association (NUCA) has awarded Rep. Peter DeFazio of Oregon our “We Dig America” award.
“NUCA is honored to give Chairman DeFazio our top industry award this year,” said NUCA CEO Doug Carlson. “Without the chairman’s support of key pieces of legislation at the right time, and his strong advocacy of these bills in the face of adversity, this legislation would not have made it out of Congress. We would be looking at an America still mired in broken water mains, unsafe drinking water, and unfulfilled promises. Chairman DeFazio’s infrastructure bill will deliver lasting improvements in the lives of every American over the next several years.”
Chairman DeFazio was presented this handsome NUCA award on Nov. 3, at the grand exterior steps of the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, D.C. It is the first time the association has awarded a lawmaker this top industry award at the U.S. Capitol Building.
Chairman DeFazio has been instrumental over the last year in supporting our industry and the work that our 570,000 employees perform each day to repair water main breaks, install new water and wastewater lines, and build complex facilities such as pumping stations and water treatment facilities. Our industry is thankful of Chairman DeFazio’s work over the past year. The effect of his sponsorship of several pieces of legislation over the past sessions of Congress that will build and improve this nation’s infrastructure, and his personal support of these initiatives, cannot be understated.
This award is presented to a non-NUCA member who has made a significant contribution to NUCA and the underground utility construction and excavation industry. The achievement must have national impact and the recipient must have national stature, both of which perfectly fit Chairman DeFazio.
