NUCA Urges U.S. House To Hold Vote On Historic Core Infrastructure Legislation

The chief executive officer of the National Utility Contractors Association (NUCA), Doug Carlson, issued the following statement on the U.S. House’s delay in holding a vote on the Infrastructure and Investment in Jobs Act, H.R. 3684:

“For the first time in decades, the U.S. House has a chance to enact significant, historic legislation that will modernize or repair America’s outdated and deficient clean water systems. This legislation will remove dangerous lead pipes in drinking water systems, provide safe water to areas that today have none, and fix our nation’s leaky, environmentally unsound and obsolete wastewater and stormwater systems. 

The Senate prudently acted on the Infrastructure and Investment in Jobs Act in early August, passing it with a bipartisan 69-30 vote. But House leadership has failed to recognize that clean water is not a political issue. Clean water and better infrastructure are not a Democratic or Republican talking point to be held as a hostage in extravagant political fights. Infrastructure is foremost an investment in every American community’s well-being, economic growth, and the hope of a better future for millions of our nation’s citizens. 

I urge the U.S. House to pass this bipartisan legislation without delay. Our obsolete infrastructure is not fixing itself.”
