Here’s a feel good Friday post. JCB and RVK Architecture teamed up for the 2025 CANstruction San Antonio competition, donating 6,000 canned goods to the San Antonio Food Bank. Their build? A towering replica of the JCB DIGatron Monster Jam truck, crafted entirely from cans. The annual CANstruction event challenges teams to design sculptures made from canned food, which are later donated to fight hunger. This year’s builds filled North Star Mall on September 8 with creative displays from local architects, engineers and universities. From the press release:

“We’re incredibly proud to be part of such a meaningful competition in San Antonio,” said David Carver, Operations Director at JCB. “CANstruction is a powerful reminder of what happens when innovation meets compassion. Partnering with RVK to bring the JCB DIGatron Monster Jam truck to life in this unique way allows us to give back to the community while celebrating the spirit of design and engineering.”

Food for Families in Need

Every can from the JCB and RVK project now supports families across South Texas. The San Antonio Food Bank continues to face high demand, and events like CANstruction help supply the right food, in the right amount, at the right time. CANstruction has run in San Antonio for more than 18 years, contributing over 20,000 containers of food and nearly $100,000 in donations to local hunger relief. Although we’re used to associating JCB with its headquarters in Savanah, Georgia, let’s remember that the company is currently spending a record $500 million to build a new factory in San Antonio, Texas. That 720,000-sq-ft plant is expected to open in 2026 and create 1,500 jobs. It will manufacture Loadall telescopic handlers and aerial access equipment, further expanding JCB’s U.S. footprint.

An Award-Winning Build

RVK’s design of the DIGatron truck earned recognition at the competition, winning the Best Use of Labels award. Visitors can view the can-sculpture DIGatron at North Star Mall through September 20, where it’s also in the running for the People’s Choice Award. From the press release:

“Collaborating with JCB on this year’s CANstruction build has been an honor,” said Tony Luetkenhaus, Principal at RVK Architecture. “Designing and constructing the famous JCB DIGatron Monster Jam truck entirely from canned goods has been a thrilling challenge that showcases the creativity and purpose behind architecture. We’re proud to help bring this vision to life and support the San Antonio Food Bank in the process.”

Watch the Real DIGatron in Action

That can sculpture is impressive, but nothing beats the real thing. JCB’s DIGatron monster truck roars across Monster Jam arenas with the support of JCB equipment behind the scenes.
