Friday Fun: Kids Can Explore Farming and Construction at the John Deere Pavilion’s Learn & Play Day, Saturday, July 20
The John Deere Pavilion is set to host its annual Learn & Play Day on Saturday, July 20, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This popular annual event welcomes kids of all ages to spend the day playing and learning about the work of John Deere customers. At this free event, children learn about life on a farm and work on a construction site.
“Learn and Play Day has become a tradition for many families, not just in the Quad Cities, but from around the Midwest,” said Brigitte Tapscott, manager of the John Deere Attractions. “We welcome families from near and far whose children love learning about the daily chores on a farm, how machines are used to shape and build our infrastructure, and how each of us are linked to the land in important ways. The day is all about keeping kids entertained while they learn, and we have plenty of activities inside and outside our facility for the whole family.”
For hands-on fun, kids can test their driving skills in a battery-powered Gator obstacle course, visit farm animals in a petting zoo and explore a construction zone to test toy equipment in sand. Kids who complete all the “chores” in Little Johnny’s Farm, including milking a cow (not a real one), will receive a “Deere Dollar” they can cash in for a special giveaway. Blacksmith demonstrations will also be conducted on site throughout the day.
A variety of informational booths from ag-related organizations including the Rock Island Farm Bureau, Rock Island 4-H & Extension, Midwest Dairy Association and Country Corner will also be featured.
