Field Meals for Harvest Season

Farmers rarely stop during harvest. Many put in 12 to 20 hours a day, seven days a week. John Deere, quarterback Brock Purdy and 10-year-old “Tractor Kid” Jackson Laux are stepping in to deliver field meals when farmers can’t leave the jobsite. The effort also supports Feeding America, with John Deere donating more than 250,000 meals to fight hunger nationwide. From the press release:

“At the end of the day, this is about showing up for the ones who show up for all of us,” said Jen Hartmann, global director of corporate reputation and brand marketing at John Deere. “Donating to Feeding America and delivering homecooked meals in the middle of a long day are simple gestures, but it’s our way of recognizing the people whose hard work puts food on all of our tables.”

Purdy and Laux Hit the Kitchen

The campaign kicked off with the playful video above. Purdy and Laux try cooking meals for farmers but quickly realize they’re out of their depth. Their solution: call in help. Cameos from Christian McCaffrey, Cooper Flagg, Jewell Loyd and food influencer Chef Reactions guide the pair through the chaos. Fans can continue to follow the fun of these two on TikTok and Instagram.

Purdy and Laux’s History with John Deere

Jackson Laux John Deere chief tractor kid

Laux isn’t new to Deere. The Indiana farm kid went viral on TikTok as @justajacksonthing, sharing tractor wisdom and farming life. Deere appointed him its first Chief Tractor Kid in 2024, tasking him with showcasing agriculture to younger audiences. His content highlights real farm work from plowing to caring for animals. This isn’t Purdy’s first project with Deere either. In 2024, he helped the company find its first-ever Chief Tractor Officer, a role designed to spotlight farming and equipment stories across social media. That program brought a fresh wave of storytelling to Deere’s outreach efforts.

Why It Matters

Compact equipment operators understand long hours and jobsite demands. Deere’s partnership with Purdy and Laux highlights the shared grind of agriculture and construction while also addressing hunger. Delivering a meal may seem simple, but for farmers deep in harvest, it’s a moment of recognition and support. Watch the second video above to see some deliveries. It’s pretty cool stuff. From the press release:

“It’s not every day a pro quarterback walks into your shop with a meal,” said Tim Couser, an Iowa farmer visited by Brock and Jackson. “Seeing their genuine interest in our operation and gratitude for what we do was an unexpected but welcome break.”
