Video: Everything You Need to Know about Case CE’s Backhoe Loader Lineup
Wayne Grayson sits down with George MacIntyre of Case Construction Equipment in our latest Machine Heads video. The talk is packed with practical takeaways for buyers and fleet managers. Skip the nostalgia. This episode shows how Case builds backhoes for today’s jobsites and why the platform still earns a spot on the trailer. The video breaks down Case’s full lineup with clear use cases. You’ll see where each model fits, how Case trimmed complexity and which options matter for productivity. It’s a fast way to match a machine to your work.
The N Series: Core Performance
Case’s N Series anchors the range with the 580 Super N, 580 Super N Wide Track and 590 Super N. These machines are the performance benchmarks in Case’s backhoe family. An over-center boom places weight on the front axle for stable roading and confident trenching near the machine. Heavy Lift and PowerBoost features help with pipe sets and stubborn digs. The 580 Super N remains the top seller for a reason: balanced loader strength, strong backhoe specs and straightforward controls.
SV Series: Side Shift and Big Capability
The SV Series adds four models: the 580 SV in center pivot and side shift, plus the 695SV in center pivot and side shift. The 580 SV is now Case’s second most popular model. Side shift lets operators move the boom along a rail to dig next to walls or in lanes without constant repositioning. The 695SV steps up with four equal-size tires and multiple steering modes. Crab, circle and standard front steer boost maneuverability in tight work and snow. With a tool carrier front end, the 695SV blurs into wheel loader territory while keeping full backhoe utility.
Utility Plus: Built for Rental and Value
The Utility Plus, also called 575 EP, targets rental fleets and value buyers. It keeps full-size backhoe specs but trims premium options to hit a sharper price. You still get the core capabilities a crew needs on a wide range of jobs. Think trenching, light load-and-carry and quick utility repairs.
580EV: Electric with Real Jobsite Range
The 580EV uses a high-voltage lithium-ion battery system sized for a typical shift, depending on application. Case carried over familiar features like electro-hydraulic controls and integrated displays, so operators can jump in with minimal ramp-up. It mirrors the 580 Super N’s work focus but cuts noise and tailpipe emissions for night work and urban sites.
Controls, Couplers And Attachments
Modern controls are a big storyline across the lineup. Case leans into servo and pilot inputs that feel like a mini excavator. Digital displays reduce switch clutter. Most models support auxiliary hydraulics at both ends with factory thumbs, couplers and return-to-dig on the loader side. That means hammers, augers and forks slot in quickly and safely. Pick the hydraulic package that matches your attachment plan, not the brochure.
How to Choose Your Case
Define the work first. If you need an all-rounder with strong resale, start with the 580 Super N. If you live in alleys and along structures, look at the 580 SV side shift. If you want wheel loader-like front-end performance plus backhoe reach, test the 695SV. If you’re managing noise or emissions limits, demo the 580EV. For rental-heavy operations or tight budgets, the Utility Plus makes the numbers work.
Quick Note: Award-Winning Electric
Case’s 580EV electric backhoe launched in 2024 and won a Compact Equipment Innovative Iron Award in December 2024. It brings zero emissions, low noise and familiar Case performance. If you work indoors or in noise-sensitive zones, the 580EV deserves a look. The full Machine Heads interview goes deeper on specs, configurations and attachments for all of Case’s backhoe loaders.
