More than 25,000 Attendees Are Expected at the Biggest Biennial Utility Construction Show
By Leanne Butkovic
The International Construction and Utility Equipment Exposition (ICUEE), organized by the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM), returns for 2009. “The Demo Expo,” as it has been nicknamed, will be hosted on Tuesday, Oct. 6, through Thursday, Oct. 8, in Louisville, Ky., at the Kentucky Fair & Exposition Center — a tradition since 1987. The biennial show began as a small field demonstration in 1964 and blossomed into a foarmal expo by 1966. ICUEE has been growing ever since, with 2009 projected to be the biggest yet, breaking records set during the previous show in 2007.
ICUEE prides itself in being the top exposition for demonstrations of construction and utility equipment. With its hands-on nature, attendees can operate equipment for themselves and learn about the newest products and innovations in the industry. More than 115 education sessions, including field trips and a Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) Workshop, supplement the wide spectrum of machinery available to test. According to show director Melissa Magestro, 100 percent more education has been added to this year’s show.
More than 1 million net sq ft have been reserved for the 950-plus exhibitors and 25,000-plus attendees to achieve the best possible experience. To make this even more attainable, ICUEE has provided a “MyShow” section on its Web site, where attendees can sign in and design their own schedule by searching for a certain product, exhibitor or session they want to see or attend and compile each event into a custom list. Everyone can also see online all of the new products being presented with a description, picture, company and booth number so that those of interest can be easily located.
New to ICUEE this year is the co-location of the National Rural Water Association’s (NRWA) H20 X-PO. Like already existing co-locations, IUV Tech 09 and the IP Safety Conference & Expo, it is held in conjunction with ICUEE. This show focuses on presenting the latest water and wastewater utility equipment and products to the industry’s professionals. With around 150 exhibitors for H20 X-PO alone, the dual shows promote a broader networking and learning experience. Planning BAUMA Begins
The Largest Trade Fair in the World Will Be Even Bigger in 2010
Complied by CE Staff
Now is the time to start planning for BAUMA, if you haven’t already. October is cutting it close to secure a hotel room in Munich for the world’s biggest trade fair, focused on the world of equipment, but it’s not too late. For seven days in April 2010, BAUMA will be the presentation platform for the latest developments and technologies in construction machinery, building-materials machinery, mining machines, construction vehicles, construction equipment and everything in between.
The show, which takes place every three years, will be held at the New Munich Trade Fair Centre in Munich, Germany, from April 19-25, 2010. In terms of exhibition space, BAUMA is the largest trade fair in the world, which means it also has some of the largest attendance (500,000 last time), which means Munich becomes a madhouse and finding a place to stay is exceedingly expensive and difficult. Go straight to the bottom of this story to start your registration and hotel hunt.
In response to the level of bookings from exhibitors, the show has been fully booked for months now — Messe München is even planning to erect additional, temporary halls for BAUMA 2010. This will bring the total exhibition space from 5.8 million sq ft (at the last show in 2007) to just under 6 million sq ft of indoor and outdoor space for the 2010 show. This makes BAUMA by far the largest and certainly the most impressive trade exhibition ever.
No other industry event features a wider range of products and services. This is where all of the market’s leading manufacturers and key players will be represented, and where innovations will be presented for all sectors. BAUMA also places maximum emphasis on communication and promoting business contacts between manufacturers and users. High-ranking decision-makers and their counterparts will meet up at this event to intensify and extend their business relations.
Facts and Figures of BAUMA 2007
More than 3,000 exhibitors from 49 countries presented their products and applications at BAUMA 2007 (a 7 percent increase over the 2004 show). BAUMA 2007 set a new record for visitor numbers: over 500,000 trade visitors from 191 countries took advantage of the world of construction and mining in all its diversity (a 20 percent increase over 2004). Around 160,000 of these visitors came from abroad (a 35 percent increase). With growth rates of more than 100, Turkey, India, Poland, Russia and the United States saw the largest increases in the number of visitors.
What’s New?
By setting up temporary halls, Messe München will be able to offer additional exhibition space to the product sections “Formworks and Scaffolding” and “Construction Equipment and Tools” — both of these being in particularly high demand by exhibitors. This additional space also means that BAUMA 2010 will again be expanding and will beat the previous record for space, held by BAUMA 2007, which took up 5.8 million sq ft of exhibition space.
“This development shows that in a tough economic climate BAUMA remains a milestone in the trade fair calendar of the sector,” says Eugen Egetenmeir, a member of the management board of Messe München, “and that this sector is determined to demonstrate its innovative capabilities at the world’s leading trade fair. Messe München, as the organizer of BAUMA, will do everything possible to create the best conditions and provide the same high level of service for that event.”
Interested in Attending the Show?
Visitor registration will be online at www.bauma.de/en/Visitors/Tickets starting in October 2009. Admission costs range from 20 Euros for a one-day ticket to 54 Euros for a permanent ticket valid for admission on all seven days of the show. These prices will only be available when you register and buy the ticket online. Tickets sold onsite at the show will be slightly more expensive.
