ASV and Popular Mechanics Partner for Track Loader Giveaway
ASV recently explored a new approach to marketing its Posi-Track loaders in a
partnership with Popular Mechanics magazine. The effort garnered widespread
interest among consumers and helped ASV spread word of its category-leading
technology far beyond the traditional contractor and landscaper target
audience.
“With Home Depot and other rental outfits including ASV rubber track loaders
as part of their product offerings, more and more consumers are using our
machines,” notes Mark Glasnapp, president of ASV. “This partnership with Popular
Mechanics was a unique opportunity for ASV to raise awareness of our products
among a wide range of consumers.”
ASV offered one of its RC-30 Posi-Track loaders as the sweepstakes prize. The
RC-30 was featured in the January and February 2006 issues of Popular Mechanics,
which has a circulation of more than 1.2 million. From Jan. 1 through Feb. 28
the sweepstakes also was promoted on the Popular Mechanics Web site, which
receives more than 337,000 visitors every month.
Prior to the sweepstakes, ASV arranged for a Popular Mechanics editor to
conduct a user evaluation of the RC-30. Two video clips and a write-up of the
evaluation, which involved a backyard landscaping project, were featured on the
magazine’s Web site from late December 2005 through February 2006.
Previous sweepstakes prizes had included a motorcycle, fishing boat, personal
watercraft and other items and typically garnered from 20,000 to 28,000 entries.
Entries for the RC-30 far exceeded all previous sweepstakes, with more than
48,000 consumers entering the drawing. ASV’s Web site also experienced an
all-time high number of visitors during the course of the sweepstakes, with
traffic averaging 50 percent higher than the same period the previous year.
