Remote Boom Control Now Available on Select JLG Telehandlers

JLG Industries Inc., an Oshkosh Corporation company and leading global manufacturer of mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs) and telehandlers, introduces a new option for JLG 1644, 1732 and 1075 telehandlers — remote boom control. This new feature enables operators to control the boom from outside the cab, providing improved visibility during load placement.

Telehandlers are often used to place loads on top of buildings, such as setting HVAC units into place on rooftops. With remote boom control, operators have the ability from outside the cab to place material at height, achieving precision placement further onto a building. And, it can potentially eliminate the need for two people — one in the cab and one at the location where the material is being placed — for improved jobsite efficiency.

On JLG telehandlers equipped with the remote boom control feature, operators are able to wirelessly operate the following machine functions: Engine startup, boom raise / lower, boom extend / retract, fork tilt up / down and auxiliary hydraulics. When operating the remote boom control from the fork-mounted work platform, a platform docking station is required. This docking station provides a stable surface to magnetically mount the remote-control box.

Hopefully this feature has been thoroughly vetted out by JLG. Many people do not know about the G10-55A machines limited production ‘ACCU-PLACE’ machines they released in the 2009 area. What a flop. Hydraulics captive to that machine only, unable to support the machine less than seven years later. I have one on site with under 900hrs and it’s been sitting for several years. This machine never was off of improved surfaces, clean, worked great until it stopped working correctly. There are no parts to fix it and with the hydraulics captive to this extremely limited production machine, I’ve been told I can’t even swap over regular G10-55A parts to salvage it. $109,000 new and dead within seven year. Had we been sold a regular G10-55A, parts would be available to years and years. JLG’s response was initially that they’re big enough to absorb this and make it right. When it came down to it, their offer was laughable and would have saddled my bottom line paying off ANOTHER $100K when I think we can all agree that a regular G10-55A at 900hrs has a LOT of life left in it. My machine still looks good! It’s just totally inoperable because of the ACCU-PLACE system. VERY, VERY disappointed in JLG.
