Niftylift Marks 40 Years of Innovation and 5 Years in Greer, SC

A Trusted Name in Aerial Lifts Expands Its U.S. Footprint
Niftylift recently celebrated two key milestones — 40 years of global innovation and five years of full-scale operations at its Greer, South Carolina, facility. The mobile elevated work platform (MEWP) manufacturer continues to grow its U.S. presence with a sharp focus on service, safety and sustainable technology. From a recent press release:
“Niftylift is growing its footprint in the U.S. by combining innovative, sustainable technology with a service-first approach,” [said Jon] Hedlund [vice president of sales for Niftylift in the U.S.]. “In a consolidating market, our focus remains clear. That is to develop advanced solutions that support our customers’ success and to building partnerships that last.”
From Garden Shed to Global Reach

Niftylift began in 1985 when founder Roger Bowden built the first Nifty 120 in a garden shed in Bedfordshire, England. See photo above. That low-weight, 12-meter trailer mount is still in production today. Over the decades, the company introduced game-changing products like the self-propelled Height Rider series, hybrid machines and hydrogen-electric platforms. The business moved to a purpose-built UK headquarters in 1994 and launched U.S. operations in 1995. Niftylift steadily expanded from a small dealer network to a full distribution and service presence. In 2020, the company opened its 30,000-sq-ft center in Greer, South Carolina. This facility now anchors the company’s U.S. support and logistics.
Who Niftylift Is For

Niftylift manufactures compact, articulated and telescopic boom lifts used across construction, maintenance and landscaping. For U.S. contractors, the company offers a reliable alternative to larger access brands. It’s known for lightweight designs, long reach and advanced safety systems. The equipment is ideal for jobs where noise, emissions or weight restrictions are a concern. Contractors working indoors or on sensitive surfaces often find Niftylift’s hybrid and electric models to be the right fit.
Hybrid Power and Telematics Gain Ground
Hybrid boom lifts have become a key product line for Niftylift in the United States. Models like the SP50N and SP50 4×4 combine fuel-efficient diesel engines with electric motors. These machines can operate in zero-emission electric mode or switch to hybrid for extended runtime. The SP50E is a fully electric version built for quiet indoor use. These platforms provide solid performance without sacrificing environmental responsibility. From a recent press release:
“We’ve seen a real shift in the market over the last five years,” Hedlund said. “Where it was once all diesel, more customers are now asking for hybrid options. They want the performance they trust, but with lower emissions and quieter operation. Our hybrid models deliver just that.”
Niftylift’s proprietary telematics system, Niftylink, delivers real-time data on machine status, usage and location. Fleet managers can use it to track run time, schedule maintenance and improve jobsite productivity. The system is built into most new models and designed for easy use by rental companies and contractors alike.
Advancing Safety in Access
Niftylift doesn’t just focus on power — it leads in safety innovation. The company developed SiOPS (Sustained Involuntary Operation Prevention System), a safety system that prevents unintentional movement if the operator is pressed against controls. It also recently added ClipOn harness sensors to reinforce safe work-at-height practices.
Growing American Support

With its Greer facility in place, Niftylift has boosted after-sales support, parts availability and technical expertise for U.S. customers. The team includes industry veterans who understand boom lift service and application needs across North America. In the last two decades, Niftylift has grown U.S. sales by more than 4,000 percent. That growth has been powered by reliable machines, innovative technology and a strong focus on customer support. From the press release:
“Our team in Greer is trusted in the industry.” said Jon Hedlund, vice president of sales for Niftylift in the U.S. “We are people who know our machines, understand our customers’ needs and are always ready to help. That connection and service-first mindset is what sets us apart.”
Recognized for Engineering and Exports
Niftylift has won numerous awards over the years, including multiple Queen’s and King’s Awards for Enterprise. The company also earned IPAF’s Product of the Year for its HR22 SE telescopic boom and its hydrogen-electric HR15 H2E. Today, Niftylift employs more than 550 people worldwide and exports to more than 60 countries. About 75 percent of its sales come from exports.
Looking Ahead
Now in its fifth decade, Niftylift continues to invest in alternative energy and digital tools. Its mission remains clear — to offer compact aerial lifts that are safer, cleaner and easier to use on modern jobsites. For U.S. contractors seeking a nimble, innovative lift solution, Niftylift is worth a closer look.
