Video: Zquip’s Swappable Power Systems Let Users Choose Between Diesel and Electric
In a sea of electrification solutions at bauma 2025, Zquip’s modular power system stood out. We visited Moog Construction’s outdoor booth in Munich to meet with Chris LaFleur, managing director of Zquip, and get a firsthand look at one of the show’s most forward-thinking technologies. The Machine Heads crew captured it in our latest episode above.
Zquip’s new system converts traditional diesel equipment into modular platforms that can run on either swappable electric battery packs or diesel-powered energy modules. The key: identical interfaces for both power sources. Whether it’s a 140-kWh battery pack or a 25-kW diesel generator with a 48-liter tank, the modules share the same footprint — 1.2 by 0.8 meters and 1.1 meters high. This design gives contractors unmatched flexibility. Use electric when emissions rules demand it. Switch to diesel when runtime matters. No machine transport. No downtime.
Designed for Fleet Efficiency

The system doesn’t just swap batteries. It helps operators manage energy intelligently. Zquip’s IoT software tracks usage, predicts maintenance and monitors battery life. Modules charge via fast charging, overnight charging or simple swap-out. Because every Zquip-equipped machine — regardless of make or model — can share power modules, fleets can right-size energy for each job. A six-machine crew can distribute power efficiently instead of overspending on oversized batteries for every unit.
Zquip in Action at bauma

At bauma, Zquip showcased a converted Cat 308 excavator using its ZQ140 battery module, fast-charged by the ZQDC system and paired with an AC accessory to power handheld tools. The live demo drew steady crowds. In another highlight, Zquip teamed up with Leica Geosystems to demo an 8-ton Cat excavator equipped with swappable batteries and Leica’s 3D machine control. This pairing created a geospatially aware, zero-emissions machine with real-time design execution — blending sustainability with precision.
Moog Muscle Behind the Brand
Zquip is part of Moog Inc., the motion control giant bringing aerospace precision to off-highway machines. Moog has decades of experience in fluid and motion systems and is now accelerating electrification with its TerraTech portfolio. Zquip’s swappable module platform is one part of that effort. Moog also showcased its Adaptive Electrification Management System at bauma 2025, a plug-and-play power architecture that simplifies EV design, reduces wiring and scales across machine sizes.
The Future Is Flexible

Zquip isn’t betting on one fuel type — it’s preparing for all of them. Diesel, electric, hydrogen fuel cell, hydrogen ICE. The modular approach lets contractors stay competitive today while preparing for tomorrow. Whether it’s one converted excavator or an entire zero-emissions fleet, Zquip’s modular system is a leap forward in how compact equipment is powered, used and managed. Learn more in the video above.
