Compact Options Grow with Diesel- and Battery-Powered Models, Offering More Choices for Confined Jobsites

Case Construction Equipment has expanded its mini excavator lineup with four new models — three diesel-powered units and one electric. These additions to the D Series lineup continue the company’s push to deliver right-sized machines for compact and urban jobsites, while expanding its electric equipment offerings. Let’s break down what’s new, but first a quote from the press release:

“Labor shortages, close-quarter environments, more stringent jobsite requirements — the challenges crews are up against today are more varied than ever,” said Terry Dolan, head of CNH Construction Brands, North America. “Helping crews meet the demands of the modern worksite is what drives our practical approach to innovation, and it’s why we’ve focused heavily on enhancing our robust lineup of mini excavators to offer the most efficient solutions. These new models deliver big on power, but they’re also easier to transport, move around the jobsite, operate, maintain and own, compared to larger machines.”

The Four New D Series Minis

The four new models now joining the D Series are:

  • CX12D — Ultra-compact diesel mini excavator
  • CX19D — Mid-range diesel mini excavator with cab/canopy options
  • CX25EV — Battery-electric mini excavator
  • CX60D — 6-ton diesel mini with long arm and premium cab

Each model is compact enough for urban environments, yet delivers solid performance for jobs like trenching, grading, truck loading and site prep.

Case CX25EV: Electric Power for Tight Quarters

The headliner is the CX25EV, Case’s newest battery-powered mini excavator. With a 32.3-kWh lithium-ion battery, this electric model delivers runtime and performance comparable to diesel alternatives — without emissions or much engine noise.

  • Operating Weight: 5,159 lbs
  • Power System: 32.3-kWh lithium-ion battery
  • Tail Swing: Short-radius design
  • Features: Customizable electrohydraulic controls, 3 auxiliary circuits, low-noise operation

The CX25EV is part of Case’s broader electric push, which already includes the 580 EV backhoe and electric compact wheel loaders. Like those machines, the CX25EV is aimed at contractors working in cities, residential areas or environmentally sensitive jobsites where noise and emissions are restricted. This unit was originally announced in late 2024 as part of a broader Case EV launch, but now the CX25EV is finally available to American contractors.

Case CX85E midi excavator

These four new minis follow recent additions to Case’s midi excavator range, including the CX85E and CX90E. Those 8- to 9-ton machines offer 72 hp engines and advanced hydraulics for high-performance attachment use in confined work zones. With the D Series and midi range fleshed out, Case now offers one of the most complete compact excavator lineups on the market.
