The 9A Series Combines Performance, Convenience, Serviceability and Safety

Hyundai Construction Equipment Americas introduced its first compact excavator — the R15-7 — in 2005, consistent with its strategy of providing a full spectrum of excavators to meet the needs of a broad range of customers and applications. The current 9A Series, Hyundai’s fourth generation of compact excavators, includes seven Tier 4 Final-compliant models that address users’ needs for performance, convenience, serviceability and safety. The 9A series models include a variety of standard features that provide value and versatility, including thumb brackets, large dozer blades, hydraulic quick-couplers for attachments and hydraulics-ready auxiliary piping.

Innovative, precision-designed hydraulic system technologies make the 9A Series compact excavators fast, smooth and easy to control, says Hyundai. Each model includes boom swing capability, enabling the operator to offset the boom 75 degrees to the left and 50 degrees to the right, which allows for close work alongside foundations and other structures, especially in congested areas. The Hyundai 9A Series models offer a spacious, ergonomically designed cab that reduces noise and increases comfort and visibility. A tilting left-side console makes it easier for the operator to enter and exit the cab, and the left and right control levers are located for convenient access. The optional lever-pattern-change valve, positioned for easy access, allows joystick control to be changed from SAE to ISO pattern, depending on operator preference. Button selections are provided for auto idle mode, max power mode and travel speed.

The cabs on the Hyundai 9A Series machines are all TOPS, ROPS and FOPS certified. Other safety features include optional boom and arm cylinder locks, an optional overload alarm and dual 5-in. rectangular rearview mirrors on both sides of the cab. Serviceability enhancements include wide-opening engine hoods, centralized grease fittings, easy-change air cleaners, 4-in. raised oil-fill port for ease of filling the engine oil and reducing spills, extended hydraulic oil filters and hydraulic oil for 1,000- and 5,000-hour intervals and a more accessible battery location behind the left side panel on the lower frame.

All Hyundai 9A Series models are protected by Hyundai’s three-year, 3,000-hour full-machine standard warranty and five-year, 10,000-hour structural warranty. An optional program, Hyundai Extend, offers a customized extended warranty with the industry’s longest-term coverage, says the company.

Advice to Buyers

“When purchasing a compact excavator, buyers first need to consider their needs for auxiliary hydraulics,” says Michael Fuller, product and training specialist, Hyundai Construction Equipment Americas. “The control valve should be equipped with adjustable auxiliary relief valves to protect not only the tool but the machine’s hydraulic system as well. All good minis should provide substantial flow and pressure capability.”
