Hamm Debuts Track Assist and WPT Compacting Tools for Smarter Compaction
New Compaction Control Tools Boost Operator Efficiency, Enable Data Sharing and Integrate with John Deere Operations Center
Hamm continues to modernize compaction with the launch of two digital tools — Track Assist and WPT Compacting — introduced at bauma 2025. Compact Equipment was on-site in Munich, where Hamm and parent company Wirtgen hosted an impressive booth at the show. These new technologies aim to streamline compaction tasks in real time and improve jobsite coordination through cloud-based data insights. Let’s break them down.
Track Assist App Supports Operators in the Cab
Track Assist is a free Android app that acts as a compaction assistant for roller operators. Built as the next step beyond Hamm’s Smart Doc app, it delivers real-time data on:
- Double pass counts
- Temperature thresholds
- Degree of compaction
The app also highlights ideal reversing points based on hot and cold zones in the asphalt. Future updates will expand its ability to compare real-time compaction values with project targets and incorporate paver feedback. The goal? More uniform compaction, fewer double passes and reduced fuel use and emissions. We can all get behind those goals, right?
WPT Compacting Brings Cloud-Based Oversight
WPT Compacting is a web-based solution integrated with the John Deere Operations Center (remember John Deere owns Wirtgen and the Hamm brand). Designed for site managers and foremen, it provides:
- Real-time machine status
- Jobsite compaction data
- Performance analytics
- Export options like VETA for DOT compliance
WPT Compacting enables communication between multiple rollers and eventually between paver and roller. It centralizes data for better planning, proactive problem-solving and long-term efficiency.
Apps Are Reshaping Compact Equipment Management
Track Assist and WPT Compacting are part of a growing trend. Compact Equipment has recently covered several new app launches that help operators, fleet managers and technicians streamline machine oversight. FAE, for example, just added remote mobility backup controls to its app for RCU tracked carriers. If signal is lost, users can now reposition machines, adjust rpms and raise or lower attachments — all from their phones.
