Bomag Launches Lightweight BT 30 Tamper for Tight Spaces

A New Tamper for Confined Compaction
Bomag just announced the BT 30 tamper, a lightweight compactor designed for narrow trench backfilling and other tight spaces. The new model weighs just 70 lbs and uses a 5.5-in. plate to work in restricted areas. The tamper generates force through a 1.8-in. jumping height and a variable frequency up to 790 vpm. Operators can fine-tune frequency for soil conditions, improving accuracy when compacting clay, silt or mixed soils.
Designed for Transport and Jobsite Durability

The BT 30 uses a Honda four-stroke gasoline engine and does not require oil-to-fuel mixing. A protective engine cover shields critical components in transit. Dual fuel filters and a two-stage self-cleaning air filter help prevent downtime from contamination or dust. A vibration-isolated steering handle reduces operator fatigue. The handle also integrates a single-point lifting eye for easier loading and unloading.
See It at Equip Expo
The BT 30 tamper will debut at Equip Expo in Louisville, Ky., October 21-24, 2025. Bomag will display the machine inside KATO Compact Excavator Sales’ booth #7164. Commercial availability is expected in spring 2026.
Bomag’s Current Tamper Lineup
The BT 30 joins a family of tampers that span gas, diesel and battery power.
- BT 50 — Gasoline, 128 lbs, 2.8 kW. General purpose use.
- BT 60 — Gasoline, 128 lbs, 2.8 kW. Popular all-rounder.
- BT 65 — Gasoline, 150 lbs, 2.8 kW. More impact force for heavier soils.
- BT 80 D — Diesel, 190 lbs, 3.1 kW. Built for demanding and extended duty.
- BT 60 e — Battery-powered, 157 lbs, 2.3 kW. Suited for indoor and low-emissions trench work.
Where the BT 30 Fits

At just 70 lbs, the BT 30 is Bomag’s lightest tamper. It fills a gap for contractors working in confined trenches, around utilities or on slopes where larger rammers can’t fit. The BT 30 complements Bomag’s heavier gasoline and diesel models while standing apart as the most portable option in the lineup. For more information on Bomag tampers, visit its website.
