Manitou established its roots in a family tradition of innovation and imaginative power, creating the first rough terrain forklift in 1957. For generations, Manitou carried forward this dedication by creating innovative products for construction, agriculture and industrial markets worldwide. This includes the entire lineup of compact track loaders manufactured in Madison, South Dakota — as well as a complete lineup of attachments, technology solutions and financing options for equipment owners.
Manitou has updated its CTL lineup to include several new models. This includes three entirely new CTLs — the 2100 VT, 2300 VT and 2750 VT — that deliver improvements in safety, comfort, productivity, simplicity and serviceability. The company also introduced the all-new 1950 RT. The 1950 RT delivers an extremely compact footprint at 69 hp with increased operating capacities, including a rated operating capacity of 1,950 lbs, and high-flow auxiliary hydraulics that make the machine compatible with even more high-power attachments.
The manufacturer has very intentionally relied on a combination of vertical and radial designs throughout its product line to meet widespread industry demand. Maybe most importantly as it relates to running a business, each of these machines is manufactured with an eye towards total cost of ownership. As it relates to the newest vertical-lift models: When factoring in purchase price, resale value, lifetime service and consumables, these can reduce total cost of ownership over the first five years of ownership by up to 15 percent. This includes the full Manitou EasyManager fleet management platform (telematics).
Manitou Revamps and Differentiators
- Breakout forces have been improved by an average of 12 percent compared to the previous Manitou models, and the manufacturer has increased fuel tank size by 14 percent to allow for extended runtimes without refueling and the associated downtime.
- Manitou has transitioned exclusively to a vertical-lift arm design with these models, which provides more reach at dump height to dump closer to the center of the truck being loaded — while also improving rear visibility thanks to the elimination of rear towers.
- The patented IdealTrax system comes standard on all Manitou compact track loaders. IdealTrax is an automatic track tensioning system that always keeps the proper amount of tension on both tracks. Instead of greasing to achieve proper tension, a hydraulic system keeps constant tension on the tracks.
- The IdealAccess door, which makes entry and exit easy, and provides the overhead door design that is increasingly popular with operators (not available on the 1950 RT).
Compact Track Loader Advice for Buyers
“It’s important to take the entire lifecycle of the machine into account when making a purchase, and understand how that affects the owning and operating costs of the machine,” says Nathan Ryan, global product manager for CTLs at Manitou. “Understanding everything from planned utilization to attachments, to dealer proximity and responsiveness, will impact the lifetime cost of that machine — in a much bigger way than just initial purchase price.”
