Virnig Manufacturing Purchases New Fort Madison, Iowa Facility

Compact equipment attachment manufacturer Virnig Manufacturing has announced its purchase of a new facility Fort Madison, Iowa, near the Illinois border.
The expansion, a “significant milestone” in the company’s growth according to officials, will support the increasing demand for Virnig products. Additionally, the site will improve service and operational capacity from other facilities like Rice, Minneosta and Pikeville, Tennessee. Those two sites will “continue to play a vital role in the company’s manufacturing footprint.”
“As demand for our products continues to grow, expanding our capabilities is essential to maintaining the level of service and quality our customers expect,” says company owner Dean Virnig. “The Fort Madison facility positions us well for the future while reinforcing our commitment to the industry.”
The expansion is about people, the company says, as Virnig will focus on welcoming team members with a willingness to grow with the company. Additionally, the firm aims to create a workplace where workers feel “supported, valued, and connected to meaningful work.” Still, the company will be bolstering its manufacturing capabilities with the new site.
Beefing up operations
Virnig began in a two-car garage outside of Pierz, a small town in central Minnesota. In the decades since, the company has steadily grown through multiple facility expansions, resulting in a “state-of-the-art” facility in Rice, Minnesota.
Additional expansions took place in 2010, 2014, and 2021, and the company purchased a 62,000 square foot facility in Pikeville, Tennessee shortly after, which began operations in 2022.
Now, the company’s new facility will support the design and manufacturing of attachments for skid steers, mini skid steers, compact tractors, wheel loaders, and mini excavators. The company also re-entered the trailer market last year with its Hydraulic Drop Deck trailer.
“Today, Virnig’s facilities encompass all aspects of the manufacturing process,” the company says. “From engineering and cutting raw materials to machining, welding, and painting, Virnig manufactures all of its attachments and trailers in-house.
“While the company has grown significantly since its founding, its core mission remains unchanged: to deliver high-quality, durable products that meet the needs of hardworking equipment operators.”
