Werk-Brau Creates One-of-a-Kind Putter Attachment, Raises $70K for Construction Angels at Its Inaugural Golf Outing

The inaugural Werk-Brau Golf Outing to benefit the philanthropic Construction Angels organization was a resounding success as the event raised over $70,000 to aid families of fallen construction workers in Ohio. In addition to the traditional “longest drive” and “closest to the pin” contests, the festivities included a putting contest — putting with a Case CX17C fitted with a one-of-a-kind Werk-Brau putter head attachment. Photo above.

“It was great to see the construction industry in Ohio come together for such a fun and worthwhile event,” said Werk-Brau regional manager and golf outing chairman Neil Recker. “We’re thrilled with the turnout and that we were able to raise money for this incredibly important cause. Knowing that Ohio families of fallen construction workers will be helped makes the hard work and long hours worthwhile. It was a great day thanks to our golfers — and we couldn’t have done it without our customers, partners, sponsors, and volunteers!”

A total of (28) foursomes from small contractors up to some of the largest in the state such as Kokosing and Miller Brothers played the Scarlet Course, with the team from Shelly Company taking home medalist honors. Raffle prizes included many summer essentials including grills, coolers, unique dining experiences, and more.

Werk-Brau was the Presenting Sponsors, with Murphy Tractor, Alta Equipment, and Ohio Cat, stepping up as Platinum Angel Sponsors. Reineke Family Dealerships was the $10,000 Hole-in-One Challenge Sponsor; though no-one carded an ace, 25 participants won Cancun vacations. Southeastern Equipment started off the day as the Breakfast Sponsor.

Columbus Equipment sponsored the essential Beverage Cart, while Black Cat Wear Parts and Tenna sponsored Beverage Stations — vitally important on a summer day in Columbus!

Silver Angel Sponsors included Kokosing Construction Company, Rudd Equipment, the Aebi Schmidt Group, and Kalida Truck Equipment. The Scorecards were sponsored by Clause Construction Corp, while Trinity Products and Worldwide Logistics Group were Cigar Sponsors.

The Longest Drive contest was sponsored by Jarrett and Ohio 811 and won by Ben Traetow of Byrne & Jones Construction who crushed a 390 yarder. Closest to the pin sponsors were ESCO and Weir. SSS Traffic sponsored the barricade hole signs.

Hole sponsors included Advanced Drainage Systems, Aebi Schmidt, Chicago Tube & Iron, Clouse Construction, Columbus Equipment, Jarrett Logistics, Kokosing Construction, Kalida Truck Equipment, M-B Companies, Ohio 811, Olympic Steel, Ritchie Bros., Rudd Equipment, Southeastern Equipment, Stoepfel Drilling, Trinity Products, Weir Esco, and Werk-Brau.

Construction Angels is a non-profit organization that provides immediate financial support and grief counseling to the children and spouse when a construction worker suffers a fatality on the jobsite. They are financially supported by many companies, Organizations, Unions and Construction Associations within the industry. The Bureau of Labor Statistics estimated there are 7.2 million people working in the construction industry with projected steady growth over the next 10 years. OSHA reports there are well over 5,000 work site deaths each year in the USA, over 20% are in the construction industry. This is approximately 4.5 construction workers killed per working day in the USA.

“I want to especially thank the team at Werk-Brau for the hard work and dedication to organize this fundraiser for our charity,” said Construction Angels CEO and Founder/National Executive Director Kristi Gibbs. “An amazing event like this takes a lot of effort, and Neil, and the crew at Werk-Brau did an outstanding job. We’re grateful that through their endeavors and the financial contributions of our sponsors and supporters we’ll be able to serve more Ohio families. We could not be more grateful for this opportunity and look forward to the years to come!”

“While this was the first Werk-Brau Golf Outing to benefit Construction Angels, it won’t be the last,” continued Recker. “We’ve had such positive feedback from our sponsors, customers, and partners that we’re already planning for next year’s outing!”
