Vermeer is working to address the increasing demand for fiber infrastructure in urban environments by expanding its microtrenching equipment offerings. The company recently highlighted its solutions which include the recently launched MTR516 microtrencher attachment, as well as integrated cutting attachments and support equipment.

“Microtrenching isn’t just about cutting a trench. It’s about managing the entire installation process efficiently,” said Nick Olsen, product manager at Vermeer. “Contractors need equipment that works together to help keep crews productive, minimize surface disruption and deliver clean results. That’s exactly what we’re building with our expanded microtrenching lineup.”

According to the press release, this comprehensive approach reflects the reality of modern fiber installation work, where contractors need integrated equipment solutions rather than standalone products.

MTR516 Microtrencher Attachment

Compatible with Vermeer’s RTX550 and RTX750 ride-on tractors, the MTR516 microtrencher attachment delivers cutting performance with trenches up to 17 in. deep. It boasts a shrouded housing that contains debris and optimizes vacuum suction.

Vermeer noted that both tractors are engineered for stability and precision. These are critical factors when working near existing infrastructure and in congested areas. The company said a larger microtrenching attachment is also in development for the near future.

“We’re seeing growing demand for microtrenching solutions as cities accelerate fiber rollouts,” added Olsen. “Our utility tractor platforms give contractors the reliability and performance they need for demanding urban applications.”

Mini Loader Attachments

Vermeer also offers specialized support equipment — like its core saw and concrete mixer — for utility exposure and trench restoration. The company’s new core saw attachment provides precise cutting capability for exposing existing utilities or creating clean edges in concrete and asphalt surfaces. It features simplified controls which allows for single-man operation. The core saw accommodates 4- to 18-in. bits and helps contractors work safely around existing infrastructure while maintaining the precision necessary for fiber installation.

Vermeer’s concrete reinstatement attachment prepares mortar, grout or concrete for trench reinstatement. It features an adjustable trench filler that minimizes the amount of slurry spilled outside the trench and includes a hydraulic gate for controllability of flow. The company explained that proper backfill is essential for long-term pavement integrity and supports contractors in meeting municipal requirements for surface restoration.

“Mini loaders offer unique advantages in tight spaces where larger equipment can’t operate effectively,” said Cole Chestnut, product manager for compact equipment solutions. “The Vermeer core saw and concrete mixer attachments help contractors maintain productivity even in the most challenging urban jobsites where space is at a premium.”

Vacuum Excavators

Vermeer also offers a range of vacuum excavators for effective dust and spoil management. These vacuum excavators are engineered for general cleanup and to help crews control dust in urban environments.
