Miron Construction Launches New Employee Sustainability Initiative

Miron Construction, a leader in commercial construction, wants its employees to make smart choices — both on the job and at home. The company is leveraging its leadership in sustainability to celebrate and expand employee efforts to realize the benefits of sustainable choices in their personal lives.

“We’ve enabled our clients to enjoy the financial, environmental and health benefits of sustainability on numerous projects,” noted Corey Brumbaugh, Miron’s vice president of business development. “This year, we’re celebrating Earth Day by launching an initiative that targets our employees and the choices they make outside of the office.”

Miron has successfully integrated sustainability into its corporate business practices and construction operations and it is recognized for its leadership in offering clients sustainable solutions as well. However, the new initiative, a partnership with Cool Choices, a Wisconsin nonprofit, will focus on employees, encouraging them to adopt sustainable practices in their personal lives through a combination of friendly competitions and collaborative learning.

Miron will prime its effort on April 21 as part of “Take a Child to Work Day” when employees and their children, relatives and/or family friends get an opportunity to share their current green practices.

“As Miron’s commitment to sustainability deepens, employees express interest in how they can implement sustainability at home,” stated Theresa Lehman, Miron’s director of sustainable services. “Many have taken action and are interested in doing more. This will be an opportunity for employees [and today’s youth] to share what they’ve done and to talk about how those actions have minimized waste, impacting their budgets and their lifestyles.”

The sharing event will serve as a catalyst for the iChoose Program, which launches the following day on Earth Day, April 22.

“Just as Miron Construction leads by example, we want to encourage our employees to inspire sustainable choices within their families and be sustainable champions in their neighborhoods,” explained Lehman. “The partnership with Cool Choices will enable employees to learn about sustainability as it applies to their personal lives and making their home healthier environments. The goal is to inspire employees to make better sustainable choices as a result of experiencing the triple bottom line benefits of enhancing the health and well-being of themselves and their families, minimizing environmental impacts, and saving money on their utility and transportation bills — just as our construction efforts deliver those benefits to our clients.”

“We believe corporate leaders like Miron present a unique opportunity to develop a culture of sustainability,” explained Kathy Kuntz, executive director of Cool Choices. “It’s been a delight to work with Miron staff and their leadership to develop this initiative.”
