Letter to the Editor

I enjoyed your article “The Art of Creating Energy” in the January 2009 issue of Compact Equipment. I wasn’t a fan of the title though. Basic science classes teach the first law of thermodynamics, the conservation of energy. This first law states that energy can neither be created nor destroyed. Your title, “The Art of Creating Energy,” really means “The Art of Perpetual Motion,” which has yet to be discovered. A more appropriate title could be, “The Art of Converting Hydrocarbon and Oxygen into Mechanical Energy.” Great magazine though; I look forward to it each month. — Troy Tempel, Bozeman, Mont.
