Honda Produces 20 Millionth Power Product in the United States

The value of turfed areas have been recognized for their beauty since China’s emperors maintained mowed grass areas from 157 to 87 B.C. Today, lawns across the globe are sustained for their splendor and environmental benefits.

A good percentage of those valuable greenscapes are maintained by bright red and silver mowers made by Honda. To prove their popularity, Honda announced in October that a Honda lawnmower that had rolled off its assembly line in Swepsonville, N.C., was more than just an exceptional lawn care machine. It was also the 20 millionth product to be manufactured by Honda Power Equipment (HPE) Mfg. Inc.

“Honda Power Equipment has evolved into the world’s largest engine manufacturer and one of the leading global outdoor power equipment product suppliers,” said Honda Power Equipment vice president Robert Whitehead. “Our associates today produce more than 60 models of power equipment products, 37 models of general-purpose engines and the industry’s widest variety of four-stroke outboard engines.”

The lawnmower — a Honda HRR216K5VXAA — joins an array of engines, tillers and generators that have been produced at the HPE manufacturing facility in Swepsonville. At the heart of Honda’s power products business is the organization’s long-standing commitment to engine development and technology. Honda is the world’s largest manufacturer of gas engines, producing and marketing nearly 22 million units globally for automotive, motorcycle, marine and power equipment products each year.

“We achieved this significant manufacturing milestone by continually designing and building equipment that exceeds consumer expectation while adhering to the Honda corporate expectation of environmental responsibility,” said Whitehead. “This accomplishment demonstrates that customers value technological and environmental innovation, and Honda remains committed to both.”

Although Honda Power Equipment products are produced at 11 Honda manufacturing facilities worldwide, a large percentage of Honda power products are produced at the HPE facility in Swepsonville, which opened in August 1984.

HPE produces general-purpose engines, walk-behind lawn mowers, snowblowers, string trimmers, water pumps and tillers. Annually, HPE has a manufacturing capacity of approximately two million units for both retail and commercial uses.
