Experts Forecast — Major Winter Storm to Hit Hartford in June
More than 1,000 people will descend on downtown Hartford, Conn., June 14-17
for the ninth Annual Snow and Ice Symposium. Coordinated by the Snow and Ice
Management Association (SIMA), the symposium will feature a two-day trade show
and three-day educational symposium for professionals who remove snow and ice
across the United States and Canada.
“SIMA is very excited about our upcoming show in Hartford. The location is
perfect. There are literally thousands of snow and ice removal companies in the
northeast United States who make winter safer for pedestrians and motorists
during the worst weather conditions you can think of,” says Tammy Johnson, SIMA
executive director. “These companies deserve recognition and access to education
and training for the work that they do. Without them, the quality of life for
people in regions that are affected by ice and snow would decrease
dramatically.”
The ninth annual Snow and Ice Symposium will take place at the Connecticut
Convention Center in downtown Hartford, and will include: 1) testing for SIMA’s
Certified Snow Professional program; 2) educational sessions focusing on topics
such as proper insurance, slip and fall claims, management, sales and marketing,
weather forecasting and leadership; 3) a tour of maintenance facilities at
Bradley International Airport in Hartford; 4) meetings and receptions for SIMA
members and member volunteers; 5) “Snack & Chat” roundtable meetings where
snow and ice professionals come together to share tips of the trade;
6) a
large trade show featuring new products and services for the snow and ice
management industry; and 7) sessions featuring a respected business and
leadership consultant from Franklin Covey.
“Each year, snow and ice professionals remove inconvenient and even hazardous
conditions from shopping malls, grocery stores, doctor’s offices, hospitals,
roads and places of work. The Snow and Ice Symposium is our way of supporting
the people who allow us to live a normal life in harsh winter situations” says
Johnson.
