ACI Brings Green Concrete to the Steel City
Although Pittsburgh is typically known for its sports and steel, concrete will take center stage as the American Concrete Institute (ACI) hosts its Fall 2010 Convention Oct. 24-28, at the Westin Convention Center Hotel & David L. Lawrence Convention Center.
Engineers, architects, contractors, educators, manufacturers and material representatives from all over the world will assemble at the ACI Fall 2010 Convention to collaborate on concrete industry codes, specifications and standards. Held at the world’s first “green” convention center, “Green Concrete in the Steel City” is intended to expand attendees’ knowledge of concrete and sustainability throughout the 300-plus committee meetings, 30-plus technical sessions, forums, tours and networking events offered.
ACI Concrete Sustainability Forum III, the third in a series of forums addressing the topic of sustainability in the concrete industry, will precede the convention on Saturday, Oct. 23. This, combined with the several sessions approved for continuing education credit by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and American Institute of Architects (AIA), will provide attendees with valuable insight into sustainability and its affect on the concrete industry.
Mark J. Leahy, general manager at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, will lead attendees on a walking tour of the center explaining its construction and maintenance during the Contractors’ Day Tour on Tuesday, Oct. 26. In addition, Contractors’ Day will feature the session titled “I’m Bidding a LEED Project. Now What?,” which will provide an understanding of green construction opportunities and concrete myths.
Beyond education, the ACI Fall Convention offers numerous opportunities to network with key industry decision makers. Networking events include the Opening Reception, Women in ACI Reception, Student and Young Professionals Networking Reception, Dinner/Dance Cruise, History of Pittsburgh-themed Concrete Mixer and more.
Convention attendees who register by September 26 will receive reduced registration rates. The Westin Convention Center Hotel and Omni William Penn are each offering convention attendees special rates for sleeping rooms. Room rates are based on availability.
