JLG has introduced the 1230P, a push-around lift designed for jobs where ladders and scaffolding once ruled. With a working height of 17 ft, 4 in. and a platform capacity of 440 lbs, the 1230P gives operators full 360-degree, hands-free access to overhead workspaces. It weighs under 1,000 lbs, making it ideal for sensitive floors and indoor applications like hospitals, schools, data centers and office buildings. From the press release:

“The introduction of the 1230P model and the latest product enhancements are designed to help operators maximize efficiency and minimize operational risks,” says Bob Begley, Director of Product Management — Low-Level Access, JLG. “With their lightweight designs, compact footprints and advanced safety features, JLG’s low-level access solutions continue to provide a safe, efficient alternative to ladders and scaffolding in facility maintenance, commercial construction and industrial applications.”

Key features of the 1230P include:

  • Work Platform: Vertical rail system for added protection
  • Auto-lock brakes: Engaged upon elevation for improved stability
  • Compact footprint: 28-in x 33.5-in platform, ideal for tight workspaces and
  • Maneuverable design: Easily fits through most doorways and freight elevators
  • Enhanced maneuverability: Easy-lock caster wheels with better swivel for fast positioning

JLG’s 1230P targets interior work in tight spaces where traditional MEWPs are too bulky or heavy.

Line-Wide Updates: Small Lifts Get Big Upgrades

JLG also refreshed its entire low-level access line. Models like the 830P, 1030P and EcoLift series now feature:

  • Ergonomic steel platforms: Easier access, better grip and increased durability
  • Punched platform holes: Enhanced visibility, drainage and airflow
  • Upgraded vertical rails (excluding the 1030P): Added protection for operators at height
  • Improved casters: Easier locking, unlocking and maneuverability
  • Auto-lock brakes: Standard on all push-around models for increased stability

These improvements aim to boost safety, simplify movement and improve operator experience across the board.

Why Low-Level Access MEWPs Are Replacing Ladders

Low-level access lifts are mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs) with working heights under 20 ft and footprints light enough for sensitive flooring. Their goal? Replace ladders and scaffolding with safer, more ergonomic solutions. Advantages include: fewer strain injuries from climbing; faster cycle times for elevated tasks; safer two-hand operation at height; compact designs for small indoor spaces. These machines suit construction finish work, HVAC, MEP, maintenance, healthcare, education and commercial fit-outs. Here’s an excellent article on the growing need for low-level access lifts.

The ES1930M: JLG’s New Micro Scissor Lift

JLG ES1930M_Stowed micro scissor lift

Earlier this month, JLG launched the ES1930M — a 30-in.-wide electric scissor lift that reaches 18 ft, 6 in. high while staying under 3,000 lbs. It fits through doorways, maneuvers tight hallways with a zero turning radius and offers 500 lbs of platform capacity.

Productivity-minded features include:

  • Optional mid-rail deck, beacon and inverter
  • New arm stack design for less sway
  • Fewer leak points and simplified service
  • IoT connectivity via ClearSky Smart Fleet

This model joins other micro scissors like the ES1330L and ES1530L, reinforcing JLG’s push into the growing low-level MEWP market. From the new 1230P to the ES1930M, JLG is building out a clear product strategy: compact lifts tailored for the evolving needs of indoor contractors. As commercial jobsites tighten and job demands rise, lightweight MEWPs that reduce risk and boost efficiency are in high demand.
